BYC SEWING/QUILTING CLUB

Hi Hattie! I haven't seen you on the site for a while. Good to see you back. I have to drive 75+ miles for any fabric that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. It's hard on older people. Out quilt shops here are pricey so have to travel a ways to get things at a lower cost. Luckily I can still drive.

Ok, I put together my first block, it was crooked, I trimmed it up to were it looks better. My question is this: Will trimming it after I sew it together cause it to come un-sewn?

Nope, because your new line of stitches will "lock" it in place. Which is why you don't need to backstich quilts untill you come to the binding overlapping. Which is why strip piecing is possiable.

Thanks! I just put together 4 strips with 5 1/2 squares with 2" pieces between them, so now I have to figure out how to put them together with a strip between them. I'm getting it,, little by little!

my adopted daughter in law came here from Texas this week and she helped me make some squares or at least get started but I noticed they are not straight. I tried too square them up but was afraid too much would be taken off one side than it should be so can you give me hints on how too square squares up! Thanks

Ok,, here is my first multiple piece attempt. I am now stuck. How do you put the backing and back piece on and what do you do with the edges?
The 5 1/2" squares attached to the 2" strip and the 4" long piece I used to put them together with the other strips:

Squares with one strip on each side:

Two strips of squares:
