Hi. I have never seen anything ever. Handmade quilt would bring personality and uniqueness to a home or bedroom

Never sewn anything and your first project is a hand sewn quilt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That sounds a lot like me, way over ambitious! lol lol

If I were you I would start w/ a pillow made from your favorite of those patterns. You still get the quilt feel in the room, figure out if you like hand sewing or quilting enough to do bigger projects and if you do you will have a matching pillow ready to go.

I would also seriously think about getting a sewing machine, you can get a basic new one at the super stores for less then $100 and you can find used ones at used stores, craigslist, garage sales etc.... for $25 or less.

Yea I decided hand done quilts because I didn't want to get a sewing machine right now perhaps I can consider t later yea pillow sounds good. However not starting soon.

I started out quilting by doing it all by hand. It isn't a bad thing, just tedious the closer you get to being finished with a project. You see the end is near and you start sewing faster or taking bigger stitches! :) A quality completely hand made quilt is actually worth more than any quality machine made quilt. As a bonus if you can do a pattern by hand then you know you will be able to do it by machine. When I transitioned over I found myself frustrated with sewing curves on a machine and would still hand sew any curves in a project!

not quite ready to join a swap...have to finish the queen-size quilt that i was asked to do...and they a king-sized quilt for our bed (FINALLY!)...thanks for the invite...definately glad we have this quilting forum!!

paper piecing is super easy, and you can get perfect points with it...have used it for a new york beauty border for a panel and have also made a great mariner's compass with that techinique....just be sure to cut your fabric pieces oversize so you can be sure that they cover the area...that was the very first mistake when i started with paper piecing...you can get ''foundation'' piecing paper online...makes life so much easier...any questions be sure to ask!

you could make any of these by hand.....however #3 should be paper pieced... the other patterns are busy!!...for your very first quilt i would just make a patchwork quilt...or could actually get a bit fancier and make a nine-patch or 4-patch quilt...much easier...it will also give you a fun time exploring fabrics, colors, etc...get some books from amazon and have fun with it...it'll take a while to make a lap quilt by hand, but it is do-able....you may want to start with a wall hanging...you could also do a patchwork background and an applique on it...there are books hand applique that are great...all of my quilting books are packed, but i'll see if i can come up with any names of books for you...let me know..

Here's a tip: I have cut "newsprint" paper so it will go through my printer and printed my foundation patterns on this. It tears off very very easily when you're all finished.

I use tissue paper for paper piecing. It is .97 per pack at Walmart and you get a lot of tissue paper per pack. A fine tip Sharpie for marking and tracing (with cardboard or something underneath) and it is so simple. The thin paper is easy on the rotary cutter when trimming final size and folds back easily when trimming seam allowances. No problem at all removing when done!
