BYC SEWING/QUILTING CLUB

Yes you posted it on the Christmas in October thread I believe. Do you sew it in strips across? I really love it. I would like to try it sometime.

Oh it is good to know I'm not totally crazy!!!!

For the 12.5 block you start w/ 4 8.5 squares, two at opposite corners (upper left lower right for example) the dominant print, brightest solid(ish) upper right, and darker or plainer lower left. Stack and cut strips at (the way I did it) at .75, 1.25, 1.75, 2 1/8, and leave remainder should be right at 2.5. Lay them out in two sets upper two and lower two print biggest strip to thinnest left to right, bright fabric thinnest to thickest left to right alternating strip colors. Do the same for lower two squares, starting w/ the dark fabric this time. Sew all strips together (but not top to bottom). You will have 2 rectangles, cross cut them at the same sizes and layout in same alternating thick to thin and thin to thick pattern and sew strips. Trim to 12.5

So this is my first post on this thread. I wouldn't say I'm a quilter really, but I love fabric and geometry and can sew a straight line so I've tried my hand at quilting. So far everything I've done is small enough to quilt on my regular machine. Over a year ago I finished my largest quilt top yet--to fit a full size bed. It's too large for me to do on my regular machine so it's just sitting around, unfinished, driving me crazy. I'm thinking of sending it out for quilting but need some ideas. What do you all think would look good? Remember that I'm not really a serious quilter so pictures are helpful. I also need ideas for a border and binding. Right now it's just all the triangle blocks. I kind of like that and was thinking of going with no border at all, just binding but I don't know.

The picture doesn't show it all, but you'll get the idea.

Very nice!!!!

Thanks. It started as a challenge to myself to get all the points of the triangles to come out perfect on a single block but then I got carried away. Any ideas for finishing it?

If you mean finishing as in borders, I would keep it very very simple a narrow solid. Dark for a traditional look, but I would pay w/ light keeping it more modern, to me it has a very modern look.

Just Beautifu!! I don't have any advice on the borders. I've never finished a quilt yet that I have started!!!

But I hope this is the year I "getter done"!!! I love this though.

@TalkALittle - why not prairie points? Those are such strong, bold geometric lines that anything too flowey would almost detract from the beautiful design......very nicely done!

@Kassaundra - I'm wondering too what this lovely block will be when it "grows up!"
