In my experience, eggs going cold for a short period of time doesn't necessarily mean death for the embryo. I'm sharing this to help ease everyone's mind in case something happens while incubating. :)

I've experienced several instances where eggs have gone cold, from 8 and 12 hours to 60 hours and I've had embryos survive and hatch successfully. The embryos may not be moving if you candle while they're cold, but once the eggs are brought back to incubating temperature, they begin moving. :thumbsup
I know the brief temp drop wouldnt affect my hatch, but 60 hrs?! Wow thats crazy and good to know! I was disappointed that an incubator that a lot of people rave about (for price point) already had issues after only 3 days. What do you think about extreme and frequent fluctuations in temp +/- 2 degrees ? Seems like that could be worrisome?

My Maran hatched some chicks out too! I didn't realize she was seriously sitting on eggs until last week and she's already hatched out 5! I took the Crested Cream Legbar eggs from my Large Cochin because the others are mean to chicks. 2 of the 3 hatched, one was a quitter. 5 of the Barnevelders ended up hatching and look huge compared to the tiny CCLs!

That's like a tiny chicken shed for chicks! (From the cattle farmer here) :gig
You use a carton to feed them? That's an interesting idea!
Cartons work real well. Until they are too big. Then they tip it over. The 18 pack carton does better for larger chicks.
going to have to remodel that chick shed. Some more hatching tomorrow.

Looks like I’m involuntarily joining the Hatch-a-long by about 5-8 days (maybe a few days more?) thanks to a couple Silkies that are broody & 2 eggs are quite veiny! My guesstimate is ~12th of October is the start date. So that means ~1st of November for Hatch-out for both eggs?

Congratulations. I think those dates are fine, since some chicks hatch late anyway

Updated pictures of some of mine at 1 week old!! :)

I love them!!! I think my next hatch (next year) will be some BCMs and some Ayam Cemanis if I can find some.
