CA Anyone???

I'm in Julian, Ca. They are the mountains east of San Diego. I really would like to hear from someone up here. I'm stressing about my coop/set-up. I thought it'd be alright but now that a storm has rolled in I've pulled everyone out and put them in the garage...not ideal. I really would like to talk to someone who has similar weather conditions (winds up to 70 mph or more, cold to about 15-27 degrees). Thanks

Hi,

I don't live near you but in the high desert north of Mojave. We have cold temps down to single digits at times and wind gusts over 90mph. Our usual are 35-45 with gusts to 60-75mph. It's also very hot. I have a chicken house 4x12x6 with a shed roof with rolled roofing. My run is 12x16 but I have a aviary in 4 feet of the chicken house and 4x6 of the chicken run. I can send photos if you'd like so you can see how it's done and it does hold up to the wind and the cold doesn't seem to bother my chickens.

Inyokern?? I'm in Lone Pine. I get my feed in Inyokern though.

Yep, hot, windy, and cold here!

Hi bigcats, I like Lone Pine. DH and I drive up that way every once in a while for the scenic drive, especially if it's snowed. We don't get much of that here. I also get my feed at the store in Inyokern. They have everything and what they don't have they'll order it. I pick up 3 baby chicks today that a friend hatched from my eggs. She was practicing using her incubator.

LOTS more people now than it was back in the 50s! I moved here in the early 80s and the growth blows me away. DH and I want to get a a few acres out near Pinon Hills where it is much more rural. Even with the growth, the desert is still much more quiet than down the hill!
