BEST Wishes for getting a Turner built Punk-d-doodle..... I met some guy in person who had a much better design than me.. (for quail eggs) (cause depends on Roller size) I don't have pics... but it's basically a wooden frame with "dowel" spaced as rollers, it sits on a rubber floor mat and has a small dc motor that pushes and pulls it with a relay switch.. really effective! I was so jealous at the practical simplicity... doh!
doh!
doh!
...mmmm More donuts..
Just remember... if you build it? "they" will come
little chicks!
and yeah p.s. I aint throwing that shell away, a Ah, noooooooooooo... hehe but tonight I repositioned my cheap "water heater thermo" much closer to Light maybe 2" with another mini 4cm fan directly facing back of thermo... Temps seem around +/- 1 deg C @ moment...
also placed a plastic sealed take-away food tray full of Water inside... After 2nite I'll have a better idea and "if" Only if it's success I'll place pics up tommorrow... cheers guys/girls
YeeHaww!! Finally I worked a way to get Stable Temps... And to anyone else who uses a Water Heater Thermostat to say you appreciate Stable Temps is an Understatement!
Left my Little bator "On" all night for Temp Trials and after a while the Light was Pulsing On & Off the way it should... holding 37.5 deg C AND? Less than .5 +/- deg C maybe .3 deg C hey let's do that dance again!
haha... Anyway cut to the chase, I Modified thermostat with holes to cool down quicker, wasn't working well (probably not big enough Fan!) So I added a small 4cm Fan placed near back of Thermo then attached a Tube to Direct Air straight into one of those Holes and "Presto" it worked a Treat!! Oh yeah I saw in a few places here on BYC to place a Heat Shield to Stop "Radiant" heat onto Eggs so I cut up a Scrap of Aluminum as the Picture shows... Wait lets do that dance One More Time!
I just gotta work out Humidity now and then My Hatch Craze finally begins
Oh yeah AHWorkshop I'm still interested if you have some cheap temperature controllers on EBAY!? You inspire my next project "old macdonald's farm"
Appreciate everyone's input here too! A big Shoutout to Punk-a-doodle & Aprophet... Cheers!
yeah it seems simple enough, just grab some "dowel". I'm not sure how you'd drive the rollers? either motor with limit switches and relay? or on/off timer relay like I have? you can get them on Ebay for around $15 or could use the push rod manually either way I like that kind of design. I'm beat 12hrs of Nightshift has killed me today... see ya

I think they have hardware cloth under a oven rack and they just move the oven rack back and forth and the hardware cloth holds the eggs while the oven rack moves them kina rolling them
You'll be swimming in quail before you know it.
Really clever set up with adding fans and vents too to get your temps stable. That is what I call rocking, er, punking!
Haha, with your electronic know-how I'm sure you *could* build an actual carousel AHS! Hatch about a billion chickens on it too. That's a really clever turner you have there. I never would have thought of a circular turner like that.
Yay, thanks for the link Aprophet. I'm learning just how many different kinds of auto-turners there are out there, and it's a bit daunting. If I can manage to build just one of them, I'll die happy.
Yeah thanks Punk-a-doodle, perseverence does finally have it's rewards!! yaeee! Your egg turner hmm? the roller system seems best design incl. for space, but Tilting Egg Tray could be easier... either way you'll need the motor to drive it, the same old story... the leg bones connected to the thigh bones connected to the hip bone la,la...
Just choose design you like and go for it... Now that we both have stable temps we already created small miracle!
But it's getting darn cold here in Melbourne!!
So I'll probably have to buy some eggs because my quail hens have slowed down and I need about 30 eggs... Good luck here guys/girls keep posting!!
Hey Aprophet you should put pics up of your bator, it must be sweet set-up cause that johnson controller is expensive... cheers bud
