Cackel Hatchery?!? (UPDATE I GOT MY BABIES WITH PICS)

I got a phone call at 7 am this morning saying that my chicks were at the post office!!

So I quickly rushed out the door, not knowing what to expect seeing I have read A LOT of horror stories about people getting a box of dead babies. And after loosing 36 eggs I could not go thru another heart brake!

I received a box of cheeps!

My 4 year old has been going thur the emotions with me I thought I would wake her up with some cheeps!

We opened the box to find 16 baby chicks! ( I only ordered 15 so they sent an extra and had the boys CLEARLY marked!)

We then used color zip ties to mark them and placed them in the brooder! I dipped everyone of their beaks in the water and then turned them loose!
They eat the food on the ground and took off running!! Look like happy babies!!

So as far as Cackle Hatchery!!

If I ever get anymore baby chicks I will go back to them! Very nice, fast shipping, good price, and sent an extra even though all of them made it!

She was and still is! We are working on names to go with their personalities, so far we have Roxy (she is bossy), Ally (just a name tori wanted to name one), Dori ( she is so little, but runs like crazy) Happy Feet ( on of the boys with REALLY big feet) and Rhino ( the other boy who headbutts everyone)

Still have to name the rest!

Off topic but, that picture of your little girl and her expression is so neat! It makes a person stop and remember how important little things really are. Sometimes it would be nice if we could all slow down a little and see things through the eyes of a child more often. Thanks for sharing your story and your picture. Glad they arrived safe and sound...good luck with them.

You've brightened my day...

I got my Cackle chicks today too. They added two extra. I absolutely LOVE the pic of your daughter!

Mine are Cuckoo Marans and Salmon Faverolles. Wish I had a few Buff Orpingtons... If we lived close, we could trade a few!

Oh what a cute pic of your little girl and your chicks! Her hands on her face, so sweet!

I noticed you have newspaper on the brooder floor. I have read here that newspaper is not safe for the babies, the ink and also it is slippery for newborn chicks, they could get splayed legs, if you could use paper towels it probably would be better for your babies. Just don't want to see you have any problems with your chickies. Hope it's ok that I mentioned this.

I like the names! especially Dori

I don't think that i have heard of another chicken named that before?! Have fun with the chickies! And if was ( im guessing ) tori, i still would be jumping for joy!

It is true. Newspaper inks are bad for the respiratory systems of small/growing animals, including hamster, ferrets, baby chicks, and more.

When newspaper gets wet, it is slippery and can cause the chicks to not get their footing. They can develop splay leg because of this...

If you take out the newspaper and put some paper towels down instead, you should be fine! After a few days to a week of paper towels, you can switch to pine shavings (not cedar!)... Add some chick grit to their feed in case they ingest some of the pine shavings....

good luck with your cute little babies!! and your little girl is precious too!!!

I had FOUR of my chicks die, but the rest are doing well. This is the first time I have ever had chicks die. I guess with the high heat down here in Texas and the stress of the shipping got them.
