CACKLE debacle

I have done the redial thing. Any other suggestions? I was thinking - a certified letter! How ridiculous to have to "serve papers on" a company to cancel an order. I feel that they are willfully ignoring my other messages to take my $60.

We ordered our chicks from Cackle on 3/19/08 and received them on 4/18/08. When we ordered the chicks they told us there would be a wait. No problem, since we ordered early.

The chicks were BEAUTIFUL!!!! Well worth the wait! We have not lost one chick. All 29 are doing so well.

I have read that Cackle Hatchery is a Mom & Pop operation with minimal staff, so be patient, I'm sure they are just overwhelmed with orders right now.

Just thought I'd share my experience.

Cackle is and has been a family business for 72 years. There has been a sudden explosion of chick orders for all the hatcheries - not just Cackle. Maybe it has something to do with the economy, maybe it's just another surge in raising chickens, who knows.....maybe it's a result of this site and others like it.

If you combine a growing number of people being made aware of the enjoyment and benefits of raising your own birds with a bad economy in which food prices are on the rise....you get overloaded hatcheries.

Cut 'em a break, alot of hatcheries are having a problem meeting customer demand this year.

Cackle is the only hatchery I use. They are a small family run business that did not see the explosion coming that came this year. There is just a couple of people that man phones there. You have to keep hitting redial over, and over again. It may take a LONG time. You will be satisfied with your chicks you get from them. They have the healthiest birds I've ever seen. They don't generally send any notifications until a week before they ship. This is because they just can't be sure how many of what chicks will be in the bators to ship until then. When they know whats expected to hatch they will send a confirmation and care sheet with the expected delivery date. Unfortunatly this isn't working for you though.

The best thing to do is find an hour when you can sit and steady hit redial until you speak with someone.

I'm so sorry you are having troubles w/ Cackle. This has been a bit of an off year for them as far as communication goes.

I have to say that I love the chicks that I've received from them 2 yrs in a row. They are so healthy!

Last yr I received wonderful customer service and was able to get through on the phone to ask question all the time. I'm not sure what has happened this yr.

I know this yr that are some of their breeding stock was not laying as well b/c the crazy weather, so it caused them to be delayed on orderes everywhere.

If you can arrange it to keep the order, I know you won't be disappointed in their chicks. They really do have great chicks. I wouldn't use any other hatchery either.

I just got my Cackle order. Took about a month, told that there would be wait, that is fine. Got call from PO on Friday morning, thankfully, we were home and picked up ducklings/goslings right away ~ one dead gosling. Notification that my waterfowl were being shipped arrive in the mail Saturday! I often work weekends and my husband works 5 days a week. If this had not happened to have been a weekend off, those poor things could have sat the post office for hours, if not overnight. That disturbed me.

If you are unable to get through to Cackle and get no response to your emails, and have documentation of your canceled order, you can dispute it through your credit card company. They really had no 'authorization' to charge your card once you canceled the order.
