Cackle Hatchery Delivery Friday July 13th!! Anyone else expecting?

Oh no, Friday the 13th.... It will be good luck then

Mine had the gel and it had been consumed. I don't remember any strange colored feces, but they did have flatulence for a day. Since I'm in South Carolina, the trip was 2 days for the chicks. I did feed them medicated feed for several weeks as Cackle recommended to do so.

Like the other poster said, they ain't show birds, but they are healthy and good layers. I've bought birds from breeders and the birds weren't the healthiest. truly, the only complaint I have is that I wanted all pullets but ended up with 2 roosters. I rehomed one and kept Stan the Man. While he can have his testosterone moments, he's easily handled.

Grogel is just hydrating vitamin supplement mix with water make available to chicks my mcmurray chicks came with some in the shipping box they must have ate it as they also pooped blue/green my order from ideal also came with apak but didnt use just did the old time sugar water didnt see any real difference between the 2 currently using quikchick in the water because of the heat am also expecting from cackle supposed to ship tommorow!!! good luck with your chicks!!

So the first batch had blue/green poo? Do they eat the gel? Or is it rubbed on them? I've only heard about this gel one time that's why I'm asking. Someone.said it came with their chicks from cackle.
Man that blows your dog killed them! Did he even eat them or just killed them?
And yea I have hears quail are a lot harder to keep alive than chickens like turkeys are too. So I've heard.
So on your second order, just the extras passed? That's not that bad.
Yea I'm in Northern California. I think the chicks are either hatched or sent on the 11th. They sent me a July 13th delivery date. So I hope all is well for them in the incubator lol and during shipping.
I'm still curious about this gro-gel. I might have to do someore research and see what I find
They ate the gel. The second batch either had more gel put in with them and they didn't finish it, or conditions were different and they didn't need as much. There was still a little bit left when they arrived. I kept it in the pen with their water and food. They ate it over the next day or so.

My chicks have all taken to their water and food immediately and didn't need me to dip their beaks, as I've heard others had to do.

My dog had been very curious about the chicks, especially when they were flapping their wings. I had to be away from the house one day and put the chicks in my bedroom (they were in a big rubbermaid container). Either my kids left the door open when they went out in the afternoon or the dog figured out how to work the door latch (not a "knob", but a "handle"). Either way, I came home to find them dead. I couldn't find 4 of them, so I thought she had eaten 4 of them -- but over the next two weeks weeks, we found them. Ugh. And, sadly, I think that two of them might have escaped and been too afraid to come out of their hiding places because after a few days we found two of them that the dog had dragged somewhere else and then it was about a week and we found the other two. That's why I think they might've been alive for a week longer than the other two.

The blue-green-gel was almost like jell-o--maybe a little thicker consistency. I was tempted to taste it, but I didn't. ;)

My chicks are almost a month old now, they should be almost ready for the coop by the time my next batch arrive. Maybe two weeks of overlap--but I can keep them in the rubbermaid containers until the current chicks are in their coop.

I've been experimenting with different treats over this weekend. My quail go gaga for dried meal worms--but my chicks turn their beaks up to them and only go nuts for corn, squash, cheese and oranges.

Oh ok. So basically the grogel is like some starter nutrition? I do have a bag of medicated feed but I want to raise them organically. I read about and saw some videos about putting yogurt in the water that it has good bacterial cultures instead of feeding medicated feed. But I'm not set on that just yet.
So you ordered pullets and got the 2 roos? I wouldn't be mad at 1 or 2 out of 10,
m building a incubator as we speak as I want to keep my cycles going self sufficiently.

This is my first order of chicks and really first time having chicks. I'm not into the 4H or showing any birds. I' just want some HEALTHY good producing birds. Thanks for the picture he is a beautiful bird!

Ol so sugar water too huh? that sounds a lot better than a gel. What are you expecting this round? I can't wait to order more lol. I like the jersey giants so that might be the next up to bat.

I have a big 50gal Rubbermaid also. I'm gonna use the top and just cut a nice big rectangle in it, cover it with chicken wire so they are protected. I also have a spare room to keep the brooder in and I'm gonna MAKE SURE my dog dosent get in there.
Its crazy because I've been reading a lot lately about people dogs killing their chicks and chickens, then today I leave the house to go to Lowe's and I come home and my dog is in the chicken pasture with feathers everywhere! The pasture is fenced and has a little drop door for them to access it, its too small for my dog to get through and thank God all were accounted for!

Yep, your dogs will kill chickens. I've never trusted my dogs.

I fed my chicks medicated food at the beginning because they always do such much better. I avoid yogurt as it is pasteurized and contains very little 'good' bacteria. For a sick bird, I use a product call Benbact which is made for birds and has beneficial bacteria.

My chicks didn't have fancy digs either.

This was originally used as a horse trough!

Well that's good information to know about the yogurt. Then I might just use the medicated feed. How young can you start feeding fermented feed? And yea Ill grab some of that benbact just incase. Do they sell it at like TSC or something?

I do have a really big metal horse trough I was gonna use but I really don't wanna bring that thing in the house so the Rubbermaid tub is gonna do. I do like reusing things though.
