Cackle hatchery's Hatchery Surprise- Anybody got this before?

Did you get all chickens in your box? Or were there a lot of heavier birds?

I got 57 birds in my last surprise. 2 of them ducks and 1 turkey. The shipping weight was 5lbs. The box they sent them in was the 2 compartment box. I got an order of 100 birds from another hatchery in a 4 compartment box. I don't think the box weighed any more than 2-3lbs.

There were two ducks and the rest were chickens.

My 4 compartment box from Cackle weighed a lot. It was sent in early March, so they had several of the fiber pads in there. Seriously, I saw the shipping weight this year, extrapolated on the weight from last year, and was dreading a box with 140 birds. Nope.

I can't wait till mine ship mon! On the plus side I got a happy surprise this morning when I got a email saying my lil banty call ducks shipped yesterday afternoon. I wasn't expecting them for a few weeks. So hopefully by tomorrow morning I will have cute lil baby ducks to cuddle

Hmm... Mine only had one layer in each compartment. I wonder if they sent so much because you are in Montana, and it was probably still pretty cold there in March. Of course, it wasn't much warmer here! I got mine the 2nd week of March, and we had a big snow storm the same day! But at this time of year, they certainly would need little extra packaging, and I don't think they'd send the larger 4 compartment box for just a surprise - it's usually the 2 compartment from what I've seen.

Well, tomorrow we'll find out!

Interesting. So did they tell you to keep them? How many did you get? What you going to do with them?

WC Black Polish - 5 SR

Silver Laced Polish - 8 SR

WC Blue Polish - 10 SR

Bourbon Red Turkey - 2 SR

Pekin Duck - 1 drake, 2 hen

Heavy Barnyard Mix - 50 Hatchery choice


FYI, The turkens, Polish, and ducks are ALL for DH. He bought the 6 turken chicks I have now (3p, 3c) and the 3 wc black and the self white polish (all pullets). How can I breed properly with that few chickens???


See, very reasonable. Plus the turkeys are for eating. I just like how they look. Don't want any ugly white turkeys wandering around my yard! The Barnyard mix is 38 cockerels for food and 12 pulletts for eggs. My 3 RIRs won't lay forever.

Count me in for the rehab. I have three rounds of turkey poults, three are still in the bathtub. Oh, Tommy gun is upset about the ugly white turkey comment. He's white holland.
