Calico Cochin Thread

This is the "mille fleur" brother of my calico pullet pictured in an earlier thread

Here's her "calico" brother!

I'm actually pleased that he doesn't have the mille fleur chest feathers of his brother in the picture above.

Love that Calico brother! I wish my boys would keep that much white on them! Lucky you!

So is it 2 different color cochins you cross to get mille fluer and calico or not. if so, what breeds.
To get the Mille Fleur, you start out with Buff Columbian bred to Mottled ( what I've learned anyway) someone correct me if I'm wrong. You would have to work at it as a project and breed back your F1 birds back to the parent birds. I'm not sure about the Calicos, probably just breeding out of the Mille Fleur birds that are producing more white. With so many started Mille Fleur projects these days, you should be able to find something to get started with.

Well I just got a mottled roo and heard if you breed him to another color it produces Mille Fluer. I don't know what to do with him. I guess that is why you only get what you need.

Oh I like him, I'd take him if you were closer. LOL I just love my cochin girls, Hopefully I got a mottled roo out of the 4 I just hatched!
