California chicken enthusiests.. where do you get your birds?

California is full of chicken breeders. For a great selection of day old and started chicks contact Farmers Feed in Gilroy. Your District APA director also lives in Morgan Hill. Join the APA, and get a membership list. California has more members than any other state.

Hi there! I am only about an hour south of you in Prunedale/Salinas area, if you are in SJ. Wow neat to know you will be having so many rare breed birds at one point. Yeehaw, California will finally be catching up! lol.

I have succumb to buying a incubator as well since it is so hard to get nice quality breed/show birds here. I hope to be having some BC/Wheaton Marans, SQ welsummers, true Ameraucanas and blue/splash Orps in the near future. I am really excited.
Anyway, are you a memeber of California Chickens yahoo group? If not -Join!
I may be interested in your upcoming stock and/or roos.
Please pm me when you are ready.
I hope you post them here and on the Yahoo groups first.

Oh and Welcome! Nice to see some more Californians!

I live in San Diego and I've been looking for breeders near here that might have any of the following chicks: mille fleur Belgian D'uccle, mille fleur/partridge/brown-red/golden laced cochin, blue laced red/golden laced wyandotte. I'm just looking for one addition to my little flock. If you don't have any of those I'd be willing to consider something else. It's so hard to find people!

Hello nieghbor! I think you should get ahold of "onthespot" on this forum. I think she has what you are looking for and she is in Norco/Riverside. Only about an hour or so from you so you wont have to ship. She has very pretty birds. Good luck on your search!

Oh oh... me me call me I'd love to take two girls off your hands! No roos allowed in Livermore. Also I'm trying to get onto the yahoogroups... I found it so now I have to wait for the yahoo servers to feel like working. I had a hard time finding good looking birds as well. I wound up driving to Alamo to get chicks. I picked up a few at the Alameda Fair as well, and one from a lady in Morgan Hill... the bird is supposed to be a silverlaced wyan, but she's not looking to pretty... I'm sad. But still LOVE her. I had to get chickens before my hubby changed his mind. It took 3 years and a new boss at work to get my chickens.

I'm not really experienced, but I was at the Gilroy Feed Store (not sure of the name) and they had a LOT of very pretty silkies, which they claimed to have in an incubator right now. I'm not sure of the quality... but they have them. I saw two baby silkies and they looked grey and they wouldn't sell them to me.

Hello!

Welcome to BYC fellow Californian : )

I am a breeder here in San Diego, CA. I breed to preserve the Fancy and Rare strains while keeping a small flock to show and educate to areas around me. I have Jungle Fowls, American Onagadori (Japanese Longtails), Serama, Pheasants, Quails, etc. Quite a fun thing to do...but just so you know, if you look all over CA, there are MANY MANY great breeders out there.

Good luck and best wishes! : )

Hard to find breeders in San Diego? I am amazed...
Have you tried craigslist?

If you need connections, just e-mail and tell me your location and I might have my bird friends who live around your area who might have what you need. I am open to help.

I am surprized you don't know me yet. Tommy, from
