California - Northern

Woo hoo!!! What Linda no celebrations of any kind? You are the 1000th post!!!

I'm trying to keep an updated list of things happening chickenwise around the state.

If you have anything I can add to the California thread, please post some info and a link and I'll add it to the first post.

If you haven't been there, you'll notice there are links to all the California threads. Just a one stop thread to help find areas and what's going on, so everyone can find their closest neighbors or find out what's going on all over the state.

Today while I was doing the weekly grocery shopping, I found pumpkins at the Grocery Outlet. Of course I bought one for my chickens! The Checker told me I was the first one to buy one and she looked at me kind of funny when I told her it was for my chickens

I cut a hole in the side of it and they are working it over right now.

Bye,

Ron

Oh I'd love to see pics of that!

Ok, I have some pictures. I had to get these early in the morning--they are busy laying eggs now

The hole in the pumpkin was about two inches. The Girls have made it bigger now. Check out the yummy seeds!

they will work on the pumpkin for another day or two. It keeps them busy and it sure is fun to watch them work stuff like this over.

Great pics!

I grow a small, pick your own, heirloom pumpkin patch. Just in case you would like to take a road trip and help support a small farm's efforts to conserve rare breeds of livestock & poultry.

Pumpkins are great food for chickens, very nutritious, even the seeds. Almost every critter I've got likes to eat them.

Hi Kim,

Sounds like fun! Do you have pumpkin pie pumpkins? I would have to go there on the weekend. Is there a certain time or hours?

Hi Kim! DH and I will be headed your way in the not too distant future. PM me an address as well and we will take a little side trip to stop in and say "Hi", as well as buy a pumpkin or two for our DGD.
