California - Northern

No that would not be good!

In the old days there was a point on hwy 99 that had a palm tree planted next to a pine tree and that was supposed to make the division between north and south california. I believe it was just north of Fresno. Anybody else ever heard this?

I never heard that before but that is about the area that I've always known to be the dividing line.

I have to admit I like the new Whole California thread though. No arguments about where North and South is.

Yes I remember that but had forgotten what it was for, but knew it had some special meaning.

Redding is the furthest North that you can grow Palm trees(well it used to be, who knows now with Global Warming), so Redding and North of Redding must be the true Northern CA

I took a tour of the UCD Campus once and the guide told us that the landscaping on the campus was designed to match the vegetation of California. Desert plants to the south to Redwood trees to the North with lots of other CA native plants in between. Pretty cool when you think about it.

It's a great State!

Love the gardens too on the other side of the Sundial walking bridge! Wonderful examples of native vegetation and the butterfly attracting plants are so cool!

Oh, sorry! That's in Redding to those who haven't heard of it.

Yes SunnyDawn! The Sun Dial Bridge is great. It is not far from the Butterfly exhibit.

Last Winter, while visiting my Mom and Sister we walked across the Sundial bridge on a day when it had snowed. Walking out over the Sacramento River on a glass bridge in the snow is really something

Its worth checking it out if you are up that way.

We walk it every time we go to visit our favorite Uncle who lives there. I agree with you, I LOVE the bridge! My brother, however says it is tough on him. He doesn't like walking on glass.

I personally don't get it, the panels are HUGE and super thick and have thick frames you could walk on instead. It feels a lot more stable to me than 75% of the bridges I've walked. Oh well to each his own. Never done it in snow though! The snow melts so fast there it would be hard to time that just right but I will definitely shoot for that. It sounds like an awesome experience. Can't wait!
