California - Northern

Hi All!

First, congratulations to Sacramento on getting the Chicken Ordinance changed!

Follow up on Davis\\Woodland Feed Stores: Higby's in Dixon now stocks Modesto Mills Non-Soy Layer Pellets. We don't have to Special order it. Make sure they don't charge sales tax.

California is a very big State. It makes sense to have State threads in the States that are the size of our Counties. I really enjoy the different CA threads. One Group I am on(Yahoo) is a CA State thread and I have seen emails regarding beautiful birds for sale but there is no indication as to where the person is. Eventually I find out they are in San Diego! The local Forums are at least within driving distance, so they create a community where we can interact with each other in the real world. It would be very hard for me to visit someone in Death Valley(of course I would probably check out their Forum)

Enjoy the Chickens!

It would obviously be different for everyone. Perhaps I am just willing to travel quite a bit further for really great stock than most folks. That is due in part to having such bad luck with shipped eggs in the Reno area. It seems to be the norm here. Not sure why. Either our PO is very hard on these shipments or they are using scanners that are affecting them, not sure but it is a huge problem for everyone I've talked to here. I also am extremely particular about my stock since I have a very narrow focus.

I also love the idea of being able to chat with fellow Californians about many other things as well. I was born in Southern California but lived most of my life in the Bay Area and travel quite a bit to the far North as well so my community connections are state wide. Like the original poster, I get weary of the dividing lines and would love to be able to just relax and post away. Although folks on here have been very polite the arguments over who lives where are old and not always cordial. It does get tiresome. I lived in the central valley for quite a few years as well and can totally empathize with her feelings that they are often left out of the other threads.

I'm not quite sure why the idea of a general CA thread is getting such an emotional reaction from some folks. I don't think anyone is trying to step on anyone's toes here. I can't imagine that the other, local threads, wouldn't continue to thrive since they do serve such a vital role for the local community. If I weren't already so busy with my other threads I would start it myself but keeping up a thread can be work and I am already busy with my Nevada thread. Besides it would be odd for a current Nevadan to start a Ca thread.

It wouldn't stop me from checking in at the local threads as well but it would be so lovely to have a thread that never worried about where the dividing lines are drawn and where everyone in the state felt welcome.

Of course if I am wrong and there would not be enough traffic to support it then it would not be the end of the world either.

wow, it's the planets guys. This is the week for others not seeing your point of view. Bad week for that trust me. You'll see it all different in a few days.

I think it would be nice to have a California thread. I've had to search all over to find things and a main thread would be nice. I've thought of doing it myself. I do know that where I live, North and South have big bounderies. Then again I live in GANGLAND. I definately think we could keep all of the threads though. I'd hate to see any of them closed.

I do post mostly on the Bay Area thread. I lived my life there since I was 4 and it's probably always going to be home, but it would be nice to stop the states conflicts through chickens! LOL

Heck I'd give gang members chickens if I thought they wouldn't fight them, which many out here do.

Sunny the Egg Train needs new blood and some people to help keep it going and organized. I'll have to work on something, because it's been on my mind.

I just can't get enough done alone. I started it just before Bill died and he was my go to person for listening and offering ideas. Terri is no longer a BYC member due to conflict with someone on the forums. Have no idea who, but she left. So if anyone knows of someone or wants to help getting it back to where we started I'd love the help. Even someone who wants to help run the thing. It does work, but I have probably moved most of what's in this state and I'm not able to do that right now, so spread the word to everyone. This is supposed to be the whole BYC community accessable, so all states and countries are welcome to join and those interested in being coordinators need to be serious enough to help set things up. Luckily there are people who also use the lists and contact from there, so it works, but should have been traveling a lot better by now.

Wish I could go to the show in Santa Rosa but no way during the week

I lost my only FBCM that hatched. Had a feeling. That's to Karen I have another roo, so at least I can get more fertile eggs, but zI really need more Davis birds. My birds were old when Bill bought them last year and they're older now. If that stinkin cat hadn't done so much damage a few months ago I had lots of chicks, but never catch up, so I need more FBCMs too. Good ones! So Sunny if you're gonna be traveling......LOL Oh ya, I'm broke, just hatch out bunches so I can get eggs.

OK....gotta get back to what I'm supposed to be doing. Maybe

I will have to check my records Kim. I hatched out a batch of "pure Bev Davis" chicks awhile back & have them all tagged & out in the new pens. Aaron & I can see what I have. Maybe there is one in there that will work for you. I will check & see if I guessed the sexesof them when I tagged them & that was awhile back so I am sure they have grown alot since then.

Don't rush it, I just need to know I can get more. Out of the dozen I had shipped I got one, but she's blue. I love my blues, so I'm happy, but I need to build that flock up better. Just can't get rid of these older girls due to sentimental reasons. I do however need to get a fresh slock going. Right now I'm out of money and supplies, so trying to be creative on coops and pens. If you're going to hold them for a while to figure out who you're keeping that would work too.

My papers for the VA are now being reviewed in Seattle, so maybe this is my last month of this amount of struggling for a while.

I will be keeping most of the Bev birds for quite awhile to see what they become. I have others I will be keeping too, Wynette's, Pinkchicks, Ruths etc........I won't let go of the BCMs easily so they will be around for awhile.
