Quote: My cat Jasper loves the Christmas tree too! The problem is, at over 20 pounds he is heavier than the fake tree! He is not really fat Just a big old Main coon cat mix.

The power is on today and I have discovered a benefit of living close to the Yolo County Jail(prison--there are a couple hundred there)! Since they really want the power to be on there, are area is a priority!

I moved the 8 chicks to a brooder this morning. The last one to hatch is getting stronger. I heard distressed chirping, so I checked and all of them were out from under the eco glow! I stuffed them all back under it and the stood there looking at me from under it. A bit later I heard happy chirping! I sure hope they have figured it out now. The last batch I had under the eco glow, I had to tuck them under at night.

I started pizza dough this morning! I leave it on the table to rise and deflate. That makes the dough taste really good!

Ohhhhh then I should definitely wait. Poo. I want the one with Marans in it. Thank you for sharing that tidbit!

If you are going to be breeding and/or showing, there is important general information in the first section of the SOP. Not only is this info important to know, I think that you would enjoy reading it and it would answer many of your questions.

I made a huge mistake, not buying the SOP when I first started with my Dorkings back in 2005. I've been making mistakes, breeding birds with disqualifications and improper type. It's going to take me years to correct the problems in my birds that could have been avoided, if I would have read the APA SOP.

I had the breed descriptions from the breed clubs, but those do not have the detailed info that the APA SOP does. I even had a breeder, who is a judge, helping me through email.

The things that made a huge difference to getting me going in the right direction were going to the Stockton show (as a spectator), buying the SOP, and finding a much older mentor- a judge and master breeder for decades.

Probably TMI, but I'd like to help people not make the same mistakes that I did.

Molly posted a picture of her Santa Scarecrow. It is the perfect Holiday display because it works for Halloween, Christmas and I bet Easter! Perfect to put Jesus on the cross up there!(I would be tempted to put the Easter Bunny up there--he steals eggs after all....)

It was a foggy morning with sun coming out for part of the day, so of course the power went out in Woodland! The chicks were saved and the hatching continued with battery backups!

Liz9910 stopped by to say Hello.

Zooweemama shared pictures of her Black Orp. Enter her into a Poultry Show! We saw her first egg and it is all Orp that egg. I have read that blue genetics includes Blue, Black and Splash. You do not have to have a Black parent to get Black from a blue breeding pair? Tips for showing were then posted.

Jersey teased us with a post about washing chickens. Later we found out that she was getting ready to show some of hers this weekend! Good Luck!

Cooper12(Jason) Bribes people to take his Roosters by giving them Bamboo!

I need to try something like that...Deb is getting some Bamboo to block out the neighbors view.

Get the SOP(standard of perfection) from the APA site or at a show. Marans are not a part of it(check on this. I have heard that there was a supplement that was going to be added but I do not know when. PM Walt(fowlman). I am fairly sure that if you get the SOP from the APA that they get more money for it.

Mike(Elitepoultry and Monsterclucker) has magical hens that lay up to 3 eggs each a day(ok, they were probably hiding them from him). His Basque are now laying and Mike may be buying property in Yreka. Mike is getting bigger coops soon too!

Meg has been MIA for a while. We wonder how she is. Also, she owes me a dozen Pita Pinta hatching eggs

Yes, my incubators are off today. I miss the sound of incubating in the morning; Hu Ah(that was supposed to be the sound the Marines make--Apocalypse Now reference, except they were Army?)

Miss Molly really is excited about breeding her Isbars(are they blue?). So excited that her computer posted three times about it! The site has been Wonky today(12/6/2012) but is working much better now. I think we broke the site hitting 10,000 posts yesterday!

Have a great Day!

Quote: Yes, he thinks he is a little kitten. My 13 year old said his kneading that cats do feels like a deep tissue massage!. Also, he does not fit on your lap! He is so tall that he can stand on his back legs and poke his head over the top of the kitchen table, like a dog! I do not know how we keep getting these odd animals....

Teaching them to use the ecoglow helps them bond to us better I think. It makes us more like we are their moms.

Some ransoms from this morning.
400

11 ducks and 10 eggs. Boom! And they aren't even khaki Campbell's and I am getting at least 8 eggs a day, sometimes 11!

And Gary. Poor guy hangs out as close to the flock as Foghorn will let him (bantam rooster who is in charge) and scratches and coos trying super hard to get Betty to rejoin him. So far it's rejection city for Gary.

I have been thinking that it was not really a hawk. None of the "Hawks" here even try to get my big old hens. Is the Osprey a type of Eagle?
According to Wikipedia (to be PC) it is classified as a raptor. People call it a fish hawk or a fish eagle. They eat mainly fish. I've seen them dive into the water feet first and grab a fish before it was awesome!
