California - Northern

These are chicks from the small pen that I am working on today. The Orange looking one on the left is an EO Basque. The ones in the middle are three of the Dorking Xs. Two look like RIR crosses and the gray one is crossed with Miranda. I also have a black rooster with cream colored hackle feathers from that cross.

This is a Dorking X, probably with a Barred Rock.

Miranda will be a year old on the 21st of this month! She is over her Molt and laid a very nice big egg today.

I would like to see the Mottled Japanese bantams pictures please. I'm looking toward those for some new blood for my line, so I don't get any inbreeding.
Hey Lucas, I think we met at Karen's "swimming with chickens" party this summer, didn't we? You can see some of the Mottled Japanese pics in the album linked in my signature - I'll send you some more pictures tonight, when I get done with coop chores!

Nice photo of Miranda! She sure is a pretty girl!

Molly, the set date for the quail eggs would be around the 15th.  I'm sure I can have a bunch for you by then.  Do you have quail racks or are you going to hand turn them?  That might determine how many you want to deal with unless you put them in a carton.

Deb

I have a few quail cartons that came with one of my incubators....:)

and how much sq. footage of pen will each bag cover? All of my pens for my bantams are 15'by 20'.

The bag says:

One bag covers 6 square feet 1 inch deep. to fill in 4 feet x 4 feet x 4 inches would take 11 bags.

It depend on how deep you want the sand to be.

Stats:
# 7 for thread with the most posts
#7 Ovation was Zooweemama's post about her Banty Dude post in the Show Off Your Rooster Thread

The Day was Sunny for the most part. We started off with cute Kitten in the Christmas tree pictures. CapayValleyChick shared breeding tips for us and that post got 1 thumbs up.

Beautiful and scary pictures of an osprey. ZooweMama shared some pictures of her Egg Bounty and we saw a picture of Gary pining away for His love Betty. Feathersprings watches Osprey's catch fish in the Ocean. Liz9910 would live to see that!

I posted a link to information about a supplement being added to the Standard of Perfection book.

Papa Brooder posted from Home Depot! He was looking for the carpet runner to seal a nest box lid. CapayValleyChick replied and Jeff found it!

Happy Chooks' Broody Hen laid her first post molt egg!

Debs_Flock was back to posting after being away.

Happy Chooks was sympathetic.

Cooper12 can help with getting Bamboo on weekends and then he showed us a picture of the hawk that killed his chickens. By the way, I watched a show once that had a little gun in the camera.....

Elite Poultry had a surprise early delivery of his new coops. They look very nice.

Debs_flock reminded us when to set Quail eggs on the 15th for the NYD hatch.

moved a broody back into the flock without them fighting.

We ended the night with a couple of posts about supplemental lighting.

Love this thread!
Huh? How in the world do I see those stats? LOL I have ovations? lol

Chooklet - soooooo tempting, but I must focus on my breeding!

Ron - I love it when they start back up from molt. It's nice knowing we are headed in the right direction getting eggs again.

More pictures - This is what I did this afternoon, with some help from my 12 and 9 year old. After some daytime predator losses, I ordered this netting. Took quite a while to get it installed, but I think it will work out well.

My Cream Legbar pullet:

Lovely coloring on her. I was looking at my girls this morning (four of them) and I'm quite happy with them. At least I will be if they ever start to lay!

Home Depot tip:

Set your store as the default. Find what you wand online and order it for store pickup. You can pay for it using Pay Pal!

Today I searched BYC to find out what type of Sand is recommended for runs(Play Sand). I then Logged into Home Depot, found play sound and used Pay Pal to pay for it.

It was all ready when I got there! One of my fastest Home Depot trips yet!

We go to the gravel yard and have them dump a scoop in the big truck. Then we just need to convince my son to come and help (read that as him do) unload it. He a gym rat and weight lifter, not problems for him.

Lovely girl, I do like blue chickebns.

of my incubators....

Oops, I cut off part of your quote. I'll save them for you and we'll work out getting them to you.
