My Legbar boys were gray. The girls were darker with brown. These chicks have some black and some brown but all of them have a very pronounced chipmunk pattern. Some have spots but that was misleading with the cls. My guess is that the darker ones are pullets and the Brown ones are cockerels?

How fun this is!

I am getting too tired to do more so I will get pictures of the Barnie OE chicks tomorrow.
maybe put legbands on them 1 color on the lighter ones and another on the darker to see what happens.
It should not take more than 2 weeks to see for sure. crele penedesenca and cream legbars look super close.
hens are single barred and males double. you will start seeing the color difference real soon. males get much lighter colored sooner. You had legbars so I am sure you already knew that lol.

Good Job on the Netting!

Miranda has not laid an egg in a couple of months now. Next I hope to get a nice blue one from her hatch mate. And of course I am very excited because somehow I have three different types of Olive eggers now! Does anyone know what color eggs CL X Penedesencas lay?
I would think it would be olive. The cream legbar eggs are blue all the way through the shell, like any other blue layer. And with Penedesencas being a dark layer, you should get olive.

The chicks with the white dot should be the boys. In cream legbars, darker are pullets and lighter with dot on their heads are cockerels.

Thanks for the compliments. I can't wait to fill em up and have everyone comfortable and laying strong.
Yea im looking at a property just north of Yreka. Im excited to see the property and talk to the owners tomorrow. Ill take pictures.
I feel ya on the low egg production. I shook my head at all the empty bags of fees in the garage and then all the empty egg cartons in the kitchen :(

Mike love your new coops. They look great. I love when I get a new coop.. I wish I didn't fill them so fast..I really must focus on less breeds. Wishful thinking!

These are chicks from the small pen that I am working on today. The Orange looking one on the left is an EO Basque. The ones in the middle are three of the Dorking Xs. Two look like RIR crosses and the gray one is crossed with Miranda. I also have a black rooster with cream colored hackle feathers from that cross.

This is a Dorking X, probably with a Barred Rock.

Miranda will be a year old on the 21st of this month! She is over her Molt and laid a very nice big egg today.

Very pretty lady's Ron. Especially Miranda ;)

Boy I sure am a dork.... Before I went to Cabo I had set some eggs so that they will go into lockdown when I came home. Well I must have counted 21 days then added 3 for lockdown, because they hatched last night instead of this coming Tuesday.... ack...

The kids next door will be so disappointed, they wanted to see them hatch

Here's the motley bunch! ....anyone need a tolbunt?

I like naked chicks...................wait a minute, something about that doesn't sound right.

Anyway, one of my new babies from yesterday.

I set 7 eggs from my silkie/showgirl pen.  Six went to lockdown, They all hatched, one white showgirl, 3 paint showgirls and 2 paint silkies. :love

Oh my Deb so adorable ... I really need to stop looking at this website. I have NO willpower ... Now I'm thinking I need a few eggs out of that pen. Yikes! ;)

MrHeinz (username) on this site raises Langshans. He is the guy running the NYD hatch and he does the monthly egg swap. I'm sure he could mail some eggs to you and maybe hatch chicks out for you. Good luck, a new breed is always exciting..................maybe too exciting as you can tell by looking at my chicken yard.

Quote: Just wait until I pull them out today and get a picture of them all together! They will suck you in. And to think when I first saw them I thought Ewwwwwwwww, finally something I didn't want. Now I get so excited when a SG pops out of the shell.
