First time hardboiling the eggs. Thanks for the idea zooweemama!
Wow, that is a nice colorful egg bucket!

I had all these posts ready to comment on, and my cat sat on the keyboard. Ugh!
So I will go with. Welcome new people!

Love the new coops ! So jealous!

Cheryl this is JUST the reason I'm trying to make Mario do a hatching app for google calendar, it will auto put in dates when you put in the egg and say what type of bird. Of course he hasn't done anything on it, but in my mind I call it hatching pro and think it can make me a hundredaire!

Zoo, you must be a great home schooling mom, you have such an inquiring mind its awesome.

Love all the wonderful pictures, its bird eye candy for us this week!

Deb the feet on your showgirls are amazing! do want!

This has been quite the chicken weekend for us. Yesterday was a big rooster day. We processed the 2 barred rocks, the non silked silkie roo and the 1/2 marans 1/2 silkie roo. The someone with 35 girls came to pick up 4 of the younger Marans boys id decided didn't make the breeding cut for his ladies. He originally wanted silkies, but all I have left are my catdancer roos that would not do well with a bunch of RIR's and orphs. So all the "extra" crowers are gone, except owl the silkie roo who was a customer return who crows all day. Very friendly, but wrong colors, not sure what to do with him. Putting the roos away just got a lot shorter! yay!

Today we moved the babies from the shed to the bottom of the coop so they will be all outside. OK they are not really babies they are 7-9 weeks old and all feathered out, but one worries. Stuffing FREAKED out when she saw them under there, but has sense mellowed out. I know turkeys can be a little territorial, but I hope its not as bad as that sounded. She was ramming the wall of the coop and making her " you be in TROUBLE" noise.

Not a great pic of the chicks, but it gives you an idea: Safe from the crazy Turkey lady and getting some sun in the bottom coop:

Then we worked on batorius manlius maximus.. here are the pictures i thought id get 3 weeks ago.

this shows you how tall

and how deep:

It holds just under 600 eggs. Mario refit the fuses, and is tinkering with the wiring today, it was overloading itself last night with its 2 heaters. It has a wet heater ( it heats the water pan) and a dry heater. We didn't think it would need both, but in the cool of the garage, it didn't get hot enough last night with just one. While heating up it did not use a ton of watts, I was afraid it was going to be too much of an energy hog to run, but it was not terrible. Less then the old refrigerator. We used out wattage calculator on it We got all the old lime off the water pan, it is a bit rusty but works. I'm hoping we get it up to par tonight and it holds temp until Monday so I can use it. TJ's will hold the newest eggs they get Tuesday AM for me out of the refrigerator so they are ready to go and I will be set for my one million egg test Tuesday!

I also moved my F1 OE roo into his own pen. Tonight I will put some Marans girls in there and we will set up lights some time this week. BY the time they start laying i will have f2! My f2 girl is staying with the marans roo since she is laying. We found the egg stash yesterday, 18 FCBM's and OE's hiding behind the spa. So I will have some of my own eggs to test BMM with.

Who? me hide eggs??

OH! I forgot to post this. Here is the pozole ready to go. half the fun is sticking stuff in it.

Happy Chooks, I wanted to tell you (since you raise them) that my Welsummer started laying eggs...FINALLY! She is 32 weeks old, for goodness sakes.

It was worth the wait, though. Ginger's eggs are a deep rust color with tiny brown speckles -just gorgeous!

Ginger is a really pretty girl too (especially considering she was bought at the feed store). One of these days I'll post pictures. I would love to see pictures of your Welsummer's to see how Ginger measures up.
What, no pictures?

Congrats on the egg. My wellies never start laying before 24 weeks, but the girl I'm waiting on now is 28 weeks.

Here is the girl I'm waiting on:

You can see my flock here:

Just wait until I pull them out today and get a picture of them all together! They will suck you in. And to think when I first saw them I thought Ewwwwwwwww, finally something I didn't want. Now I get so excited when a SG pops out of the shell.

Deb
I have a pretty Showgirl Cockerel I am looking for a home for.. if anyone has been sucked in by the cute pictures :) lol! I actually like them but have very limited space and my breeding program has gone through a few changes so have decided not to breed Showgirls. Feel free to contact me for info..

I know you guys were just talking about this, but I missed out on an important detail...How much do you charge your coworkers for a dozen chicken eggs?

Ron-- not yet! I did a burn pile today (so I could set up new coops). I still am fighting a cold off.

I charge 3 but if they return my egg carton in good shape I refund a quarter. If you do the refund, make sure they bring back your egg carton!

I should charge more....but they are co workers!

Don't have coworkers, but I just raised my prices to $4 per dozen. Existing customers are still at $3 per dozen. Have you looked at egg prices in the store? They have gone up considerably. With the cost of feed, I'm not giving them away, except to family.

I finished getting the sand into the runs. Decorating I don't know about.

Funny for the day. While I was fixing the run in the pen with the 1 Dorking AM and three Basque hen pullets, my Golden Comet, Yang, escaped from the side yard. She joined right in with the others like they were one big flock! They have never been part of the same flock so I was expecting some fighting.

When checked on them after dropping chicks to Jeff, Yang was roosting with the others in the chicken hutch like that was always her place to be! She was not happy when I moved her to the new coop. I swear I have weird chickens....

I hope your cold gets better soon!

Quote: Aw! She wanted to be like the "cool girls"

Thank you! I don't seem very sickly on the internet, eh?

It's a bummer I've seen people think they're being criticized (when the other person was just trying to be helpful) and leave! Yikes.
