PetRock. I am really sorry to hear about little marshmallow. That is a very pretty chicken. I hope tomorrow you will find her

BigDaddysMom. Your puppy is hilarious.
Hey Ron. Good luck with this Marans eggs! Might you know anywhere or anyone who I can find a few FBCM layers? I need some for a project.
My bielefelders got shipped today. I got a phone call from Jenny Bradshaw this morning. She's a really nice lady. They should be here Thursday morning. I'm really excited about the bielefelder. I feel very privileged to work with such rare genetics.
I want to eeep them very very safe. I am thinking about building some sort of indoor coop in my garage for them with the hardware cloth coops I got from Miss Molly.I'm going to start a thread just for them documenting their growth weekly.
2013 is gonna be a fun year!

congrats . Had not heard of that breed.

It's a sad day here. A neighbor's scroungy, white, terrier like dog got into our backyard this afternoon. It had our blue Isbar cornered in the garden. I yelled at it and our dog chased it to the fence where it squeezed through a 4 in. high hole. We blocked the hole and began checking on everyone. Astrid was scared but seemed to be okay but Monet's favorite white Polish, Marshmallow, was missing. We found a few white feathers on the ground but our Coronation Sussex was missing her tail feathers so those could have been from her. Maybe the dog came over, snatched our Polish, carried it home through 2 yards, and then came back for seconds. Why is it always the favorites that bad things happen to? RIP Marshmallow!
I really hope she's in hiding. I know how it feels to lose the "favorite". I'm so sorry.
Ron ,
I got some Cream Legbar x Crele Penedesenca eggs from Deann today.
She showed me her first two eggs she got from her cl x cp pullets.. Nice speckled DARK olive eggs.. I tried to talk her into taking them too but nope
Good luck with your hatch!

Cool! Congrats!
Hi everyone! Just checking in, working over 50 hrs a week is exhausting but Tis the season! I finally got to spend some time with the chickens, doing chicken chores on Sunday before work. It was our new puppy Kate's first chicken chore day. She chased a lot of chickens and my big roo tried to fight her but she thought he was playing and she's really quick so Big Daddy went running off, totally defeated! When I was done with my chores look where I found the puppy....guess she liked the fresh shavings.
Adorable!
I am taking some time off tomorrow to go pick up 6 Marans hatching eggs!

I hope they will be fertile!

Thank you! No sign of her this morning...

I was just reading about Bielefelders a few weeks ago. I will be following your project with great interest!

LOL!!! Thank you for the offer but I'm not sure that I'll tell Monet! You know how she is with chickens!

She loved those 2 tolbunt polish chicks that we got from you and gave to my oldest daughter. Then she transferred that love to little Marshmallow. I told her yesterday that we will get some more polish chicks (she wants several different colors) once we have more land and can build them a large enclosed run. We were forever rescuing Marshmallow from one thing after another. Even though we trimmed her crest, she still was a ditsy little thing that was always getting lost from her group. Every night when we shut up the chickens we would have to check to make sure she was in the run or coop. Once or twice a week we would find her sleeping somewhere outside the run. She just wasn't meant for backyard free ranging. I was worried that a hawk would get her but I never thought that a dog 2 houses over would go through 2 fences and a huge backyard to get to my chickens. I don't think that the chickens perceived the dog as a threat. They are used to our dog and Marshmallow would even walk between her legs. Our blue Isbar was clucking because she was cornered by the dog but none of the other ones were upset or sounding the alarm. They are really good at spotting hawks and hiding but I guess not so good at knowing that strange dogs are a danger. One good thing that happened is that our dog (who played with & killed 2 cockerels and my favorite hen when she was younger) charged out of the house and chased the killer dog out of the yard. Nobody but her is allowed to mess with her pack which includes the chickens!

Omg you got them!!

Ha I'll have to steal some chicks. I had lust in my heart for them and the breese.
I have some marans chicks around. I will probably know for sure who is a pullet by Stockton.

If you need someone to watch out your chicks I'm you girl! Well once the incubator is done with its last disaster. More on that later. I'm having coffee and being sad for marshmallow. But I was so excited about local b,s I had to post.

Wondering if anyone is thinking of showing at the Huboldt or Red Bluff shows?
They are just as close as any OR show for me.

I know it is early but I will need to find out what I need to get them over the border and find out if any of the kids are interested in showing.

I've been checking out the Meet thread and haven't seen anything on them yet.

Stockton is just to far for me when coop-out is factored in. Husband is not fond of chicken chores other than collecting eggs, and if they even growl at him he just leaves them.

The rain missed most of the North State last night, with rain falling at about Elk Grove South. It should be a nice afternoon today for all of us!

PetRock has cute Langshan chicks! Three different colors too...A lot of us like blue chickens.

Some Roosters take a long time to start crowing. Some take 20 weeks, others crow on the first Day! HappyChooks posted and awesome video showing her day old cockerel crowing!

Several of us got that special first egg form our pullets!
smilies-3434.png
some were compared to a quarter, others were compared to a golf ball. Awesome!

Watch out! Pet like raccoons are around!

. Lock those coops up tight!

Some things should not be put in with your beetle farm project, like skunks

PetRock had a dog attack! Marshmallow is missing and may have been taken by the Dog. Cheryl offered a replacement! Many of us showed caring and concern! Rat traps were suggested to deter the dog from coming back.

Cooper12 picked up hatching eggs from Juststruttin. Great looking olive colored eggs should be the color that the pullets lay. They are Crele Penne x Cream Legbar hatching eggs.

BigDadysMom stopped by, which is amazing since it is a busy time for her, to share a puppy vs. Roo story. The puppy picture was adorable!

Many of us dream of Biefelders and Breese.

ElitePoultry will have both of them soon.(I need to find a little bandit or pirate smiley)...Congratulations Mike!

Check in tomorrow for more adventures!

Morning all! I'm wondering if you may know of some dedicated 4H kids in my Northern CA area that would want to help with washing etc and getting the birds ready for shows. I'm suffering too much with leg nerve pain to participate in the upcoming shows if I can't find some great helpers.
