A question for everyone.... I noticed on my 2+ year old delaware in my layer flock that she has one 1 inch spur - only one and I've never seen that on any of my hens. She's a pretty good layer.

Somehow in the years I've been with chickens I have not noticed that before. I think I'm going to take it off/trim it like you do with roosters...any thoughts?

I saw this on a guide to identifying Roosters. Some breeds have hens with spurs. I wonder if someone has been out crossing those Delawares?(Sorry).

My thought is to leave it alone unless she is hurting others with it.

Since she is in a layer flock, I doubt your are breeding her. I wouldn't.

I have had a couple hatchery girls with spurs. My buttercup has spurs about 3 inches long.

Trisha - I cleaned out the brooder coop today and got a good look at the babies. I have 8 chicks (lost one at a couple days old) - 6 are blue and 2 are black. Of the blues, looks like 2 are females (they are 4 weeks old), 2 for sure cockerels, 2 "iffy" though I suspect slower developing cockerels. Of the 2 blacks, it looks like a pair.

If anyone is looking for blue barnevelder cockerels let me know, as I will not be keeping them.

Since she is in a layer flock, I doubt your are breeding her. I wouldn't.

oh for sure not a breeder, just my sweet Ellie that lays golden eggs!

ugh besides worms I found a runny bloody stool on the perch in the coop. Ugh
I followed everyone around and dont see anyone pooping blood. all looks normal actually. everyone is being semi normal but to be safe off to the feed store for coccid
Then will come back and clean the perches
