Made some very hard decisions this morning....

I'm going to get out of the chicken "business".  A few other reasons, but mainly my health. I just can't do the things I like to do anymore it seems. Of course I'll still have chickens in the backyard, but the breeding is going to have to be put on the back burner.  I will be selling everything...

incubators, coops, birds etc.  Birds will be auctioned or sold privately, everything else... I'll probably put a craigslist ad together.

It's been so much fun with all of you guys!

Oh Cheryl, that is heart breaking..

Here are the pies I made last night

the pie crust recipe I used was AWFUL wouldn't roll out etc etc. Took me hours it seems.
Yummy!!! We didn't have our traditional pecan pie for Thanksgiving because I just couldn't bring myself to use corn syrup.

But it is on the menu for Christmas! I am going to use Lyle's Golden Syrup which is a cane sugar syrup made in Great Britain. If anyone is interested in trying it as a substitute for corn syrup, I found it on amazon.com. Gotta love amazon!

Golden Syrup is wonderful! I use it in a cookie recipe, ANZAC cookies(Australia, New Zealand Army Cookies)

It is a great substitute for sugar in Whole wheat bread too.

I am so sorry to hear this!

I have posted before that I have had peripheral nerve damage for 5 years form spinal stenosis. I tried conservative treatment for several years before the nerve was crushed. Life looks very bleak with this. My oldest DD, the one in the picture with the FBCM, told me it looked like I had gone straight to being an old man in a very short time. I could not stand up to cook either, which was terrible!

The new spinal micro surgery was amazing! It felt like I had a new spine over night and it was out patient. The 10,000.00 dollar surgery cost me one 15 dollar copay. I have not had sciatica since. I still get muscle pain when I do too much but that happens to everyone and the nerve is still regenerating, but there has been no new nerve damage since.

I had a nerve muscle test three years ago, and the Neurologist said that I had a history of repeated nerve damage and muscle regeneration that had gone on for most of my adult life. At that time the peroneal nerve had recovered to my knee. It is now down to the middle of my foot and should make it to my big toe sometime next year(peripheral nerves regenerate, spinal nerves do not)

If you are not getting better, it may be time for the micro surgery.

Also, I have heard the same thing about an established Rock Star Poultry Breeder like you getting out of the "business" and it did not stick. I have eggs in the bator from her(see she did not quit) now and if these do not work out I will get another couple dozen next Jan or Feb(only one pullet was laying). The FBCM that is in the picture wit my oldest DD (he was about 5 months old then) came from her.

I am hoping you get better soon!

Well I'm sure at another time in my life I'll be back in the game! I've had spine surgery and I really want to have another, but all the MRIs and doctors I've seen say they can not see the nerve damage, however I like you said, am constantly in pain and can not hardly walk. I'm on huge amounts of nerve pain meds and nothing works. I have appointment with 2 new doctors in January, but at this point I need to change. This decision did not come lightly, Ron, it's been in the cards for many months unfortunately.

I had an MRI and the Regular Doctor did not see the Stenosis problem. I went to a Sports Orthopedic surgeon that works with UCD athletes and he saw the Stenosis. The nerves get messed up and look like a horses tail instead of going down nicely from the spine.

Have you had the nerve conductivity test?

I hope you get this figured out!

I wish I lived closer to have been able to come by and help you out when you needed.

Im really sorry
Hopefully something changes and you decide to stay in buisiness. You need like an apprentice over there. ;)
