California - Northern

Oh no Cheryl. So sorry mostly that you are in so much pain! Your chickens and the rest of us will look forward to your re-entry into the chicken world! I can't even imagine NorCal without all your beautiful breeds and your generous heart helping so many of us out.

Well I'm sure at another time in my life I'll be back in the game! I've had spine surgery and I really want to have another, but all the MRIs and doctors I've seen say they can not see the nerve damage, however I like you said, am constantly in pain and can not hardly walk. I'm on huge amounts of nerve pain meds and nothing works. I have appointment with 2 new doctors in January, but at this point I need to change. This decision did not come lightly, Ron, it's been in the cards for many months unfortunately.
Hi Cheryl,

So sorry to hear the news. Hopefully your new doctors can shed some light on what is going on and fix it. My DH had stenosis surgery last year at Saint Mary's Spine Center in SF. His Doctor, DR. Zuckerman, is well respected in his field. You may want to get his opinion. Here is the website: http://www.stmarysmedicalcenter.org/Medical_Services/198739.

Did you make the Chocolate one from the recipe I posted yesterday? Did you like the favor of it?

Ron

Yes I did, it was very good! I used semi-sweet chocolate instead though. I even broke out the star tip and decorated the top with whipped cream lol. Of course didn't take another pic since I was running late this morning.

Wow what a lovely sentiment, Jeff you are rooster among men! I love working with you and am happy to help going forward however I can.

This goes way back, about 45 years or so. The hatchery messed up and sent my dad 200 chicks, he had only ordered 100. Needless to say everyone started pecking on one another, being white made it worse. To distract them my job was to pull wild mustard and hang it all around the fence, keeping their focus up and hopefully away from the bloody tail ends of the others. We also hung catfish carcasses, they loved them and it didn't take them long to strip them down to nothing, the extra protein helped them also. I also got the job of catching them so mom could paint their hind ends with white shoe polish. What fond memories-not!

Great Story!

I saw a picture of a hen pecking at a ham hock! All of the meat was gone too.

so sorry to read your news, Cheryl -- i hope that some medical solutions are sorted out soon!

and sad to report that a red-tailed hawk took one of my sussex girls this morning -- go figure it would be a white one -- can't blame the hawk, but i feel sorry for the poor chicklet. everyone else is completely freaked out -- managed to get all but two back in their coop, but those two are hiding deep in a thicket and will not come out. i'll just leave them alone for a while...

well, despite having found a large pile of white feathers, an hour later i went out to bring in some more firewood, and who should come flapping out of whatever hiding place she'd been in than the missing sussex! so all 12 are safe and accounted for, and back in their coop gossiping. the hawk will probably try again, so i'll have to be on a sharper lookout -- but i suppose it's going to rain now for days anyway, so they'll stay indoors.
