I don't know if this is appropriate to ask you all to keep a friend in your thoughts and prayers today..:( ...My son's 4-H poultry leader had a terrible thing happen because of this rain last night.

A single fence board came loose and a neighbors dog's got into her yard.

The dogs killed 18 chickens, a pair of hand raised turkeys (breeding pair) and her prize winning geese and gander (breeding pair just under 3 years old).  I'm just so sad for her.  This has kind of made me realize how fortunate I am and made me stop complaining about the time and effort it costs to care for my chickens.  I hope none of you lose chickens or pets to any more preditors.

That is so sad. I will send good thoughts. Cheryl I keep being
Surprised you have not taken a break from chickens. I know nerve pain is intense and I've wondered how the heck you do it. I hope less chickens helps. Law happy birthday.

Hope everything is wonderful with you all love your families and have a wonderful Xmas!

Tonight was my turn for the missing chicken! I noticed that one of the RIRs was missing(of course it was Stella--why do the pretty ones always cause so much trouble?) I did not find her on the first check, but later I found her roosting by her self on the back deck behind some wood.

Oh and Mimi, the SG Dorking was up on the roof of the coop again tonight!

All is well now!

Funny for the night!

50 hours without power. I'd almost forgotten how nice it is to flush a toilet. Eric just read off accuweather that we have 2 more storms coming with more snow and wind. We still have 7 inches on the ground. Lost the redbud and the acacia trees in the front yard, snow weight brought them down. They were little compared with the ones who took out the power lines.

awsome !!!

raining here. last night I did a bone head thing. When it was snowing the chicken run door opened into the yard. I ran up locked up shut the door and went out the chicken yard. Failed to shut the gate.
Walked up to let them all out and saw a headless Huey pulled through the fence. he was next to the gate so what ever did it was pretty dumb when it could of went 2 feet around and ate him completely. Both my icelandic hens are gone though they could be hiding in the trees.
It is very windy and rainy . I left poor Huey where he was with the exception of moving him to the other side of the fence. That will also trigger my flood light. I did not notice this last night so it may of been late. poor guy was probably sleeping there.
If I see anything tonight I will have a clear shot. Last thing I need is Racoons or skunks or possums around.

That sucks Jason...so sorry!
