California - Northern

Got a few quick pictures of Brindie today also. It was take her with us or deal with the mess she might have made if left behind.
The dog really misses 4-H meetings.

Yes I plan on using sand on the bottom. I am going to put the rest of my stucco wire on the bottom and staple it to the sides. Then add the sand.
Stucco wire is super strong should keep anything from digging up through it.

if you make the wire into a skirt around the perimeter of the coop, instead of a floor beneath it, any digging predators will be stopped much sooner -- mine (using hardware cloth) extends 2 feet around my coop/run, about an inch below the soil, and absolutely nothing has gotten in so far (*knocking on wood*, just in case)

I was reading earlier that you were thinking of concrete with your coops. How cold do you get in the winter. Concrete will get cold and stay cold on their feet. I've only lived in more northern locations and I wouldn't use them there, Dorris, Dunsmuir, Hornbrook, the really big cities. LOL

Today's yucky find. A bloody egg. Yum!

We dug trenches and buried 1 x2 welded wire. Goes down 14/16 inches and then comes out another 8 inches. Works well to stabilize lighter structures in windy locations also. We knew we had every chicken eating varmit around and wanted to make it tough enough that they couldn't get in in a single night. Wish we would have put in drainage at the same time though.

We are less than a 2 hour drive. Tiny little park right on the border, behind the inspection station where I met Eric 30+ years ago.
