Yes, give her the electorlytes and bring her inside.

Sorry to hear she is not better!

Also, check for mites--look for little specks around the vent that move. Also, check the vent for redness and swelling.

Is she pulling out her feathers? Any other symptoms like watery eyes, nasal discharge or coughing?

no sign of mites, no feather-pulling, no other symptoms -- just utterly apathetic & miserable-looking, and now puffy too. i've got her set up in the garage with a heat lamp, food and corid-water, and an extra supply of treats in case she perks up.

the only vitamins/electrolites i have on hand are the kind you mix into their drinking water -- which already has corid in it. is it ok to mix both in together?

I found this, hope it helps........https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/204211/a-quick-corid-dosage-question

I love that show and any other cooking show for that matter :) I have seen quail meat and eggs on tv. A lady that works next door to my office raises pigeon or "squab" for restaurants.

OK the one thing I really hate is squab. That is some nasty stuff. Almost everything else I do not like I can be convinced to eat when cooked by a top notch chef but not that. Back when I made a decent salary dh joined me in NY for a convention and his family and I bought him dinner a a very good resteraunt. They served squab on the tasting menu and. Had to spit it out. Luckily d is a limitless food container and ate it happily.

The only other things on that list are natto and Vegemite. Both f those I think you have to grow up with.

update: Amelia looks worse, she's not interested in treats at all & only stands still with her eyes closed -- and now her feathers look puffy.  I'm going to try to rig up a box or something to bring her indoors where its warm -- but am not sure i can mix the save-a-chick vitamins i have with the Corid-water, i've always read not to mix anything else in with Corid?

poor girl!  and what timing with this cold snap...

I put sav a chick in with corid. But you could put some in a yougert or something and give her 1 syringe of water and one of the food mix. Assuming she is not eat in at all and you don't know f she is getting corid.

I'm so sorry was happy this morning she perked up.

We eat their eggs all the time.  Over the holidays I deviled large plates of them for two different parties, they were a huge hit.  As soon as I find time, I have a few to butcher (extra boys).  My SIL has asked me to raise a batch for him, we're going to trade for pork from one of the grandkids hogs.

Aww mini deviled eggs that must have been fun and yummy!

I watch them to make sure they take a drink of the corid water. They do not eat or drink much when infected, so if they are not drinking the water, you will need to make sure she gets the medicine. Even just a sip or two will get them drinking more and on the way to recovery. Try dipping her beak into the corid water or use a spoon or syringe. Also, are you using the wettable 20% powder?

She gets better soon.

In fact, I'm baking right now and the recipe is by weight. It called for 150g of egg. I used one huge egg................65 grams, put in a large took me to 110g, threw in a bantam, 140g. I was going to call it good and thought, what the heck and put in a quail egg..........................148g. I called that good, LOL I call those breed specific recipes

I wish I was closer!

It seems like Back Yard eggs have more oils and other characteristics(like the consistency of the whites) that makes them work better, so a bit less should work just fine in your recipe!

yes on the powder -- and i do have a little syringe, so i will try -- although i wanted to leave her alone for a little bit too, just to get a chance to warm up. it's so frigid outside!

Well at 35g to an ounce, I don't think it would be noticiable anyway. I could have stopped with the 140, but I have so many quail eggs around.... I keep them boiled and peeled in the refridgerator as bite-sized snacks. You have to consider most recipes are "3 eggs" or whatever. Quite a bit of variation there even for commercially graded eggs.

OK, here's a silly question: how on earth do you get a chicken to open its beak, to put the syringe in, when she doesn't want to? i tried dipping her peak in the water, but she just shoot her beak off and looked insulted. could not get her to open her mouth for the syringe.

any suggestions?
