I just got an email from Elias's Wife, Ashley. She was replying to my email from last week or so, had a talk with Elias and I am now on the top of their list to get White Emp Hatching eggs from them!
It is cold today, so I really do not want to do the yard and coop work that is on my list for today. I will probably wait until 3 pm or so.
I did get another colorful egg from my Dorkng AM today and yesterday I got a nice egg from my Blue Marans. Now I need the Partridge Penne pullet and my other EE to start laying.
The green egg is very large. Since Dorking AMs lay big eggs, I hope my Dorking Marans, Dorking Reds and the Dorking Australorp all lay big eggs too. I expect to have eggs from them in a month.(note to self, get a nest box into their hutch).
Wow someone flipped the switch on my cream legbars today. I'd been getting an egg every other day or so. Then all of sudden 6 eggs today and at least 3 other brand new layers today in other coops. It was a good day but crazy how the legbars were on a timer or something. 6 eggs. I still can't believe it. It'su own little miracle!! Good thing too since I went crazy on the swap page for a month I have a lot of eggs to ship!!!
Jason,
Congrats on the post holes. Was the ground frozen? Looks like a nice size run in a great spot. I wish I had the motivation to get outside and build a couple of coops/runs. I am such a wimp in the cold and I need a new coop, pronto.
Ron, Jason:
You're gonna love these OE! I am still getting two eggs and from my two girls, even after moving em in with my CL roosters. They were not even phased by the move. They moved in and acted like they owned the joint. The Penedesencas were indifferent to the new girls moving in and the CCL girls were welcoming. I have never seen a group of chickens get along so well so fast after a move.
I also added two Basque to my Basque pen. This did not go as well. My Basque are very territorial and the new girls hid out in the coop for a few days. Lots of feathers in the pen, but now everyone seems to be getting along better. Still no eggs from that pen since the move.
Well, feeling well enough to get out of her drawer and go somewhere else sounds like a good sign... here's
that she will continue to improve. Is she still getting the medication?
From what I understand the Cocci are an intestinal parasite that, when they hatch, can cause the lining of the bird's intestines to shed away and cause internal bleeding. Being cold and bleeding internally can be fatal - warmth helps, as does building a resistance to the parasites - which is what the medication does because it slows down its growth and allows the bird to build resistance to them.
yes still getting the medicine (they say to use it as a five-day course), although there's been absolutely no sign of blood in her feces -- i just went into check on her, still standing still with eyes closed and head down, her tail is very low -- feces she's left behind are very white and watery (or were, they've dried now), which dark flecks in them -- and LOTS of them, the floor of the shower is quite bespeckled.
edit: checked on her again, and she chirped quietly at me -- put her in front of her waterer, and she did take a sip...

Happy Chook...48 weeks and she gives you a huge egg to start...right on! Beautiful egg.
Ron... Looks like the Bobs is working...I just gave my birds another round of Bobs..
Amy Beth...you always take such wonderful pictures. Those English Buff Orpington are beautiful. I'm looking to get some eggs for hatching. Who did you get them from. I have every color of English Orpington except Buff... Are these the Leghorns Ron hatched? Very nice looking ladies.
Jason... Looks like you have been very busy. Congratulations on your new place. I bet the kids are loving the snow. Are you staying at the new place yet?
Everyone got oatmeal this morning, it was 19° when I got up. I was just informed that the water in my canning kitchen is frozen. Going to be one of those days.

That's awesome Jeff. I'm getting excited and nervous at the same time. All of my rare breeds are laying now. Of course I'm going to incubate all those eggs. I better get busy building more grow out pens... When I say I ....I mean my husband
