I only have one breed , Silkies, and they are just for fun/hobby. Seems to me what ever breeding programs i have been involved with in the past ( chickens, dogs and mini horses) there has never been profit involved if I am doing it right lol! I only hope to get back enough to hopefully pay for feed and supplies but even that has been iffy for me. This year i hope to sell hatching eggs as chicks and started birds. I will say that I am not in an area where sales are the best. Over here on the coast the population is limited and it is a long drive to just pick up a couple chickens.How many ppl have their chickens as fun/hobby? And how many ppl are in the "chicken business" ? And if you're profitable, how do you do it? Sell eggs? Chicks?
Just curious, I have about 50 and feed is getting expensive and I have about 6 breeds. Waititing for some to hatch to sellI also sell eggs and that helps but I would really like to make a little $ on the side too.
Beautiful eggs! It is strange that you are getting green and turquoise eggs. All my buff x wheatens lay turquoise or blue eggs and all of my wheaten/blue wheatens lay a sky blue egg. Weird! Maybe it is what you are feeding them or it is the free ranging. The first eggs will be much darker though. I love those colors! Great pictures!Chickee, the wheaten Am started laying 2 weeks ago!
