Second one pipped at 9:30, and yes we are having conversations whenever I come in to warm up.

I LOVE that image! First time I saw it my daughter thought I was a little crazy sitting here giggling.

Yesterday I was looking at my Dorking crosses to see if they looked ready to lay. One of the things I did was touch on the back to see if they would squat. They made little chirps and ran away! When they are ready to lay, they will squat and begin chatter talking to me. Roos can get mean at the same age, so the nice little friend will peck at you!

Huh! Never knew to try that. The Leghorns are looking pretty red in the face. But I don't think they will let me touch them. They are crazy. Run all over. Leghorns are true chicken-y chickens lol. They also hold themselves very apart from the rest of the flock. Sometimes we find them inside the pen with silkies/sizzles hanging out, sometimes they are running with the roosters, sometimes they are in their little girl power pair foraging. I think besides the leghorns I only have one little Buff Orp not laying. She has failed to thrive since the beginning. Always small, always seems sickly (like cocci) but despite working and corid- she is still thin and tiny and low pullet in the flock. But she eats, drinks, forages and usually hangs on the outer skirts of the flock. If she makes it the POL- I might be able to try this touch trick with her.

Both of them lay almost identical green eggs. But one lays a larger egg. Solara (the one that is lighter towards the head and darker towards the tail) runs with my Marans and Orp roos all the time. She also lays her eggs in the duck coop pretty frequently. 2 days ago I found them STUCK together behind the ducks lay boxes. She was trapped under him and he got gotten jammed in too small a space. We had to rescue them. They are so goofy!
