I finally found a dog toy I can stand for our Golden. While in Wal-Mart I saw some pigs and gave it a squeeze. It is more of a soft OINK rather than the squeeky squeel of most other toys. This dog also chewys out the noise makers regularly. So far she has only played with it and not destroyed it!

My Baby Orpingtons

We had Orpington, RIR, and Yokahama chickens in the past; all were purchased as pullets or young adults. This is our very first experience of having baby chicks, and what a wonderful experience it is.. I am enjoying every minute of it.
These adorable, beautiful babies were bred and hatched by Deann, "just strutting farms". They will be our pets just like the others, also will be my models for some of my future paintings which I am looking forward to.

Dear Deann, thank you very much for these lovely babies, and all your help and guidance.

And I've been using the Nutrena All Flock exclusively.  I've had great results.  I originally had my feed store order it for me, now he sells it to everyone.

Ditto. Bradshaw feed carries it and introduced me to it about two years ago. I told R & S Hay Barn and they special ordered it; they now carry it full time, and today we even had a discussion about the good things they're hearing about it from other customers who have been buying it. Now I only have a 26 mile roundtrip instead of 90 miles! Plus it will keep me out of Bradshaw Feed when Chick Days start.

Very cute fluffy butts. I think my blue orpingtons came from Deann by way of papabrooder. They are some of my prettiest chickens.

Just Struttin and Ron Thanks for the advice about shipping/hatcheries...After discovering I couldn't get what i wanted from Meyer until June I have decided that this year I am going to get my chicks from the feed store. they buy from Privett Hatchery in New Mexico and I have seen good reviews. My feed store will special order in lots of 25 so that's what I will be getting. I am including in the order a couple of Speckled Sussex in hopes that one at least will go broody by next spring then I will order hatching eggs...much less stressful than worrying about chickie babies in transit.

That is a great way to get them! Of course you could always get some hatching eggs.....

Such cute babies!

Mine aren't quite at the dinosaur stage but they are working on it. I love the girls little cotton ball taits.

I have a question for those of you who live in the Petaluma, Santa Rosa, Sonoma area. Do any of you buy feed at Hunt & Behrens in Petaluma? What is your opinion of their feed? The friend that I am going to start breeding Langshans with drives almost 2 hours from Brentwood to Petaluma to buy their feed for all of the animals on their farm. I went there today and bought some layer pellets and whole grains but after talking with chicken tows, I'm wondering if that was a good choice. It is definitely lower in price than the King Feed that I usually buy. 50 lb. of B & H organic layer pellets was only $24.79 compared to $38 for 50 lb. of King Feed organic layer pellets. Carolyn mentioned that she was not happy with the way her birds looked when they were eating it. Now that I think about it, the feathers on my friend's birds look kind of ratty. I just thought that was because they were living the free life on the farm! If it is cheaper but not as good for them, I am going to have to find an alternative to present to her before we start breeding our birds.

Cute! I love them at all the different stages! There is just something endearing about the awkward, dinosaur stage!
