My DH says I'll be the little old lady with 100 chickens. (instead of cats) Good to know I'll have company.

My son already calls me the crazy chicken lady (in relation to a lady we used to talk about when he was in 4H

, you wouldn't have believed her home). Anyway, if you only have 100 birds, maybe a 100 of mine could come and live with you to even things out!

Had the most fun visiting my dear friend Sarah Cromwell (mycutekitties). She and I are breeding my tolbunt polish & lavender marans together on her property.  It was so much fun helping her change areas around (remember AKA Helen Keller's mother)!
The birds are so happy there!

Now I just wish Jeff (papabrooder) was closer as he has my Mille Fleur Leghorns

I've spent the last few days doing some rearranging around here myself. Poor birds are so confused. My Coros from Karen went from her place to quarantine pens and now to their new digs (until I get another wild hair). They are happier now though as they have much bigger place to chase bugs and tear up grass :)

oh this can be a fun day....

how about everyone count off their chickens!!

I proudly ONLY have 35 laying hens + 4 lavender marans juveniles + 21 chicks + 24 eggs in incubator... under one hundred!

Quote: Moving and arranging was Sunday--I was able to get 3 of the Dorking Crosse into the layer pen and they integrated fine. They are around 20 weeks and have started to lay. The Blue Marans Dorking is bigger than her mother! They are all 4 bigger at 20 weeks than their mothers! I see why Dorkings were crossed as the original meat bird years ago....

The Marraduana pullet and the Partridge Pene are still recovering. They PP was beaten up the worst but she is pooping and alert. The vent area is normal--below it has no feathers and is bloody. Half of her comb is gone and the feathers on the top of the head are missing. I am treating with VetRX. The Basque will be fine. I am still worried about the PP. Hopefully I will be able to get them into the pen with the Bresse and the OE pullets that did integrate with one of the Dorking Crosses Maybe in a week or so.

So two steps forward and one step back--still making progress!

I'd say we could outcross to Penns to keep egg color, but them  that would be making the eggs harder to hatch! we could call it Ultra mega chicken but no one would ever  get one!

Reading the Marans threads way back, it sounds like that cross was done with disastrous results. Carnation combs are a dq in show Marans, and I suspect the Pene influence takes the shine out of the egg color causing a flat "paint" job :sick

Ok, I have um.. 14 LF laying hens, 6 LF roos, 5 Silkie/Sizzle/Silkie mix sillies, 8 Bantam roos, 5 bantam hens, 9 juveniles and 4 chicks. That makes.. 51. Still under 100, phew.

This mish-mash will change when I figure out who goes where. The bantams are all together right now minus the Silkies/Sizzle/Silkie mix. I still need to work on pens to get the birds sorted out...nice day to work outside!
