wow, catching up on 4 plus days is hard!!
My daughter and I had a great time seeing Jeff's chooks today! We stopped and picked up 3 chicks, and my new mama seems to be taking good care of them. Keeping my fingers crossed. Thank, again, Jeff!
so glad to help out. more below...
I'm looking to buy some bantam frizzle or sizzle Cochin fertile hatching eggs. I would like to buy them for My niece for her Birthday.
I have a few little hens in my fun flock and everytime my niece comes over, she tells me how bad she wants them....I think it's time I make her dream come true. If anyone knows Where I can get some, please let me know. I'm thinking she might want to show them in 4H. Thank you, Molly
a recent acquisition. I was on the hunt for white silkies due to the one getting eaten, then remembered I really wanted to make white sizzles, then saw the frizzled bantam cochin who is AMAZING, then at stockton had to pick up a couple of smooth white hens to go with him, then they got their own breeding pen and somehow I forgot about my white sizzle project. will have to get back to that. Oh, and yes I do have another flock entirely which I've had for quite a while but for some reason they aren't laying. I think because I moved them. so, long answer. yes, I have pure white that are definitley potential SQ. and the other ones I'll try to get pics of. Not sure what to call their coloring....
My daughter just came screaming up from the coop. One of the chicks that we got from PapaBrooder yesterday died. She was under mama's foot. My dear daughter is very sad, since that was the Americauna that she was holding yesterday while we picked chicks. I am not sure if this one started eating/drinking when we brought it home. I think this is the same one that was sprawled out under mama (you know how chicks can sometimes sleep) when I checked on them this morning. I reached in, and it woke right up, but now she is gone.

Hard lessons for 9 yo little girls!
No, no no!! so sorry. she is welcome to come pick out another 1 or 2 chicks (No cost!) if you guys are up for it and you think you can get mama to take them in. so, so sad. my kids have cried many tears over lost chickens, even ones they didn't like. :-)
Quote: ah man, chicken trauma! so sorry about this as well. my LC orp hen had a massive open wound on her back and i gave up hope. she is now almost normal. praying the little one makes it!

on happier new.... collected 76 eggs today!!!!! serious record. The girls are not messing around anymore. I also will have shipped 13 boxes of eggs in the last 2 days. I am so tired of bubble wrap!!! ;-)

Hi PetRock-

Thanks for this insight. I wish I could get to the point of eating my own chickens. At least I know what they have been fed and how they lived prior to becoming my dinner. But...... I am just not there yet. I hope to get there soon though :). Until I do I am happy to have someone raise them humanely and then make a tasty dinner if that is what they wish to do. :D.

Gosh I was goofing off at work for just a few minutes today to post that question and I log back in tonight and there are 6-7 more pages to this thread already. Busy group!!!!

I am so happy that this forum exists. Everyone else looks at me like I am nuts. I may be nuts but I found a bunch more people that have the same chicken affliction I do. :D They make it seem like a guilty pleasure or something....... Kind of like listening to 80's hair bands!!!

Glad your here...lots of fun CRAZY chicken lovers.
I no what you mean about people thinking we are nuts. I have people Refer to it as....Molly and her chicken thing with a Weird look On their face.
My mother inlaw can't stand the fact I have chickens. It truly bothers her. She even tried to have a heart to heart with me about having so many chicken.
Coming from the lady that takes 6 full grown dogs with her everywhere ...she probably mad she can't just let ALL of here dogs run around her anymore...

I'm sorry I have not contributed lately... I get sort of over whelmed at the speed this thread moves, then can't get caught up and then feel badly if I can't post anything remarkable

At any rate, I use this company in southern Ca for my boxes unless I need a size they don't have then I'll go directly to Horizon. But shipping I believe is much less and you get them pretty quick.

I knew someone would have a good link!

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the great box advice! I can't wait to get photos of my guy enjoying his new digs!

Sincerely,
Haileigh

Full broody mode :) I hope to have some babies soon! I think tomorrow is the earliest they can hatch :)

I'm so glad she stuck with them. It will be sweet to see her with the tiny little chicks. I have 7 of their siblings in the brooder right now.

Had the most fun visiting my dear friend Sarah Cromwell (mycutekitties). She and I are breeding my tolbunt polish & lavender marans together on her property. It was so much fun helping her change areas around (remember AKA Helen Keller's mother)!

The birds are so happy there!

Now I just wish Jeff (papabrooder) was closer as he has my Mille Fleur Leghorns
