OH I miss my brahmas... Can I get some buff laced and palominos from you...eggs, chicks, pullets or hens :)

Let see....

15 Barnevelder hens/pullets
2 Barnevelder cockerels

9 blue Barnevelder hens/pullets
2 blue Barnevelder cockerels

8 "cornevelder" hens/pullets that are essentially Barnevelders with a drop of Dark Cornish blood added. (pretty much considered "pure" at this time). I love these girls and they lay such pretty eggs:)

So that means 36 chickens total

I AM NOT counting the 45 eggs with strong veins and wiggly embryos in the bator at day 7 . I removed a 5 clears today. 3 clears were from my friends flock, but she has one roo and 17 hens that free range all day and some of the eggs were smaller pullet eggs. Her roo just might not be able to keep up with that many hens scattered all over the place.

I also don't think one should count chicks or incubating eggs LOL.

I LOVE your focus... When I get back into breeding after this whole health thing passes/gets solved AND we get some property in Aptos/Santa Cruz hills THEN I will also FOCUS on just 2 breeds.... one of course will be my Mille Fleur Leghorns...I sure do miss them

Without directly quoting anyone I am going to try to make random comments, because I could be here all night quoting what someone said and answering! Does that make any sense???? I want to talk to everybody. Lol. But my phone is less than cooperative for typing so 'scuse the typos please.

Back to the crazy people comment. I just got it again today. Usually from friends and family I get the polite, not quite condescending smile which says, so young to have lost your mind already but we love you anyway look. Then I get the people that ask me a question so I over answer and get that glazed look back from them that says they tuned me out two minutes ago.

Miss Molly......as for the mother in law thing that might me good right?? Maybe she will go away. :D.

My numbers are easy...... I don't have any chickens right now!!!!! They are coming soon though. I am starting to stress about building a coop by myself as the ex built my last one. I am not sure I am up to the task. But I do have to say power tools make me think I can!!!!! It's called denial and I live there a lot!

Welcome to all the new people from a new people.

I just can't wait to get some of those cutie baby chicks. I am envious of everyones picture taking skills.

Moving and arranging was Sunday--I was able to get 3 of the Dorking Crosse into the layer pen and they integrated fine. They are around 20 weeks and have started to lay. The Blue Marans Dorking is bigger than her mother! They are all 4 bigger at 20 weeks than their mothers! I see why Dorkings were crossed as the original meat bird years ago....

The Marraduana pullet and the Partridge Pene are still recovering. They PP was beaten up the worst but she is pooping and alert. The vent area is normal--below it has no feathers and is bloody. Half of her comb is gone and the feathers on the top of the head are missing. I am treating with VetRX. The Basque will be fine. I am still worried about the PP. Hopefully I will be able to get them into the pen with the Bresse and the OE pullets that did integrate with one of the Dorking Crosses Maybe in a week or so.

So two steps forward and one step back--still making progress!
Ron sorry about the chicken attack. Hopefully the culprit will be tomorrows soup.
Reading the Marans threads way back, it sounds like that cross was done with disastrous results. Carnation combs are a dq in show Marans, and I suspect the Pene influence takes the shine out of the egg color causing a flat "paint" job

Would not be a good cross if you are trying to improve the looks of a Maran. Now if you want to improve there egg laying and heat hardiness it would be a nice cross. Plus the penedesenca will help keep the eggs darker through the laying season as they are not as likely to wash out. The brown is a seperate brown all together and is more wet terra cotta. My crele can be shinny. My emp's and partridge penedesenca are darker with less terra cotta
FUN GAME TODAY...

who else can count off their chicken collection?

wee.gif
7 creme legbar x crele penedesenca

Oh, yeah, it would not work for what I'm thinking of either, those eggs are worse to hatch! Like burining the piano becuse it was out of tune to get to the strings. Sorry copper didnt mean to make you cry...
no worries. The shipping is the killer.
I know what I got and there is nothing to cry about.

Deb

That happened close to Dunsmuir on the Sacramento arm of Shasta Lake. Terrible fish kill.
