I candled 42 hatching eggs today. Kim(CapayValleyChick) better have her Brooder ready! The Dorking eggs are developing like crazy! Quite a few Delawares also.
I will do another major candle on day 14 and toss the clears.
Look at this egg we found in the Basques nestbox. Its about 1/3 of the size of one of their eggs. Is this a chicken egg? Its really speckled! Really darker tham a basque egg.

Ooh, I'm excited to see pictures! I would love some Delawares. I didn't know you had them! Ron, do you have a website? How far away is Woodland? Hmm...
I have a bowl in my kitchen window that I keep them in - except the ones with paper thin shells. I also have the spur that Snowman shed last year. I need to take off his other one but no one wants to hold him while I take it off. Who's chicken now!

I am hatching them for Kim(CapayValleyChick). She has SG Dorkings and Delawares. Kim will have Culls from her breeding program this year since I will be hatching hundreds of chicks for her this year(If the hatches go well).

Woohoo!!! That's such good news! How many look like they are developing?
Deerling, I will have extra Delawares. I'm trying to breed them larger and closer to the Standard. I'm only keeping a few of the best. The culls are fine for backyard layers, just not good enough for breeding to show. I have one hen who was born last year. She's way too narrow. I shouldn't have kept her, but she's so friendly. She's always flying out of her run and coming to see what I'm doing. She did it tonight, came wandering over when I was feeding the cows, like whatcha doing? I'm trying to be professional and not get attached, but she's a cutie. It would be nice to find her a pet home.
I finally updated my chicken webpage. I can't get the text to come out right and I still need to fix the links, but here it is: http://www.starroseranch.com/chickens.html
The one I found still in the shell with now pip stayed in the incubator over night and perked up nicely!
First thing in the morning I checked on the 6 outside and found one cold outside of the ecoglow. I guess they are smaller than most of the ones I hatch. It was cold but its eyes were kind of looking at me, so I put it into the incubator with the last chick to hatch. I took one side off of the ecoglow so that the chicks could make better contact and later set up the big light for them.
The almost dead one was fine and back to normal in a couple of hours and is now back with the others.
They are all doing fine and I have Four Blue ones and 3 Splash ones:
I am off to get them some Chick vitamins and plain yogurt!
Had to run into town to pick up dog food at 3:00 today, when I got back and looked at the thermometer on the bator it was down to 80° at 5:30. Someone tripped the GFIC and it had been without power while I was gone. I've got it back up to 98° now, hope I caught it in time, they have looked pretty strong up to this point. Time will tell.
Went out this morning to see if the partridge was still on the eggs I left her with last night, found a BSL on duty instead so I pulled the eggs. I'm sure they will start up soon enough.
