Baby chicks! I have four new members of my flock! I was watching the flock deal with the snow when I heard the unmistakable sounds of newly hatched chicks. Grace, one of my banty hen mix hens, hatched four (so far) new babies in her bucket-on-the- wall nest box.

I was so excited I slipped on the icy snow on the way to the coop... Slid on my butt into a mucky, freezing puddle, so I may be tender when my butt thaws.

But little baby chicks! Grace has been broody forever...and I left the eggs in that bucket nest for her. Just forgot about 'em, said "Good girl, Grace!" to her every day. She left me see her new family. One definite bantam mix chick and three LF mix chicks.

Whoot!

Sorry for the fall!

But what a nice story abut getting chicks!

Welcome Alli & WaterKat.

It might be very dangerous to my health to ever meet Deb, some very cool breeds you have. I do think hubby would notice if they showed up in one of our flocks.
We drive right by on our way to Depoe Bay every February. I'll stop by next year and drop some off. Tell him they must have jumped the fence.................or....................they followed you home?

Yay for babies! Congrats! Sorry about the slip. The best ones are the ones that no one else sees. hehe

Depoe Bay! And the Dee river, shortest in the world. Or at least it used to be...I lived in Otter Rock and went to school in Newport for a few of my formative years. A millennia ago..... Always sad my Grandmother sold her property after my mother's death (and I was only 13, so no way for ME to keep the property... ).

It's one of the reasons I fell in love with my current house and 2/3rds of an acre; it is covered with pine and cedar. So "Lincoln County, Oregon-y" to me. The only thing that would make it closer it would be some Douglas fir, too. Well, and the beach below the house, like Granny's. But the middle fork of the Cosumnes river is less than a mile away.

But Lordy, I would have loved to retire in Otter Rock, Beverly Beach, or Depoe Bay. <*sigh*>

Quote: Sounds like wonderful place but you have a great spot, perfect for your retirement....and John probably won't go that far to work on your place!

We bought our place because it reminded DH of Magalia. He graduated HS in Paradise. We have the firs, pines, manzanita and red clay, just like his old home. With all the growing we do for growers market the front 1 1/2 acres is lawn, raised beds, buildings, etc., the back acre+ is treed and backs up to a 20 acre parcel with nothing but trees.

Oh you all are making me so homesick! Lincoln City, Depoe Bay, Newport. My favorite place In the world is that stretch of the Oregon Coast. I think all my important life decisions have been made during day trips to the coast. Do you know The Ester Lee Motel? I love it there!

How are the baby goats doing Molly? Dangit, I can't stop thinking about them!

And all the duckling people have me thinking about ducks too.

Tried turkeys - they are too high maintenance. (meaning dumb as a box of rocks) They will NOT go in to roost at night! But I still miss them, super sweet and would follow you anywhere.
