I really want to get a gate for our driveway. It's very private but we keep getting people drive up the driveway and it's really unsettling, especially because it's usually so quiet. It's just the kids and chickens and I here during the day, too. One crazy women kept saying "I used to live here" and I had to say "Okay, but we live here now and I am asking you to leave and not come back" multiple times. Creepy.

Creepy!!! Do you have any "no tresspassing" or similar signs that you could put up until the gate gets installed? Or even a chain strung across the driveway should keep most people out.

That's a good idea! I was actually thinking we could just drag a log across, haha. A chain is probably a better solution. I'm not sure if the gate will really ever happen, our landlord is pretty, ummm, hands off. There is a small Private Property sign but I am thinking about getting or making a bigger "Private Property ,Absolutely No Trespassing" or something sign. I always saw those and thought they were so unfriendly, but I totally get it now. The person who drove up today was in a huge black Escalade with darkly tinted windows and my six year old was outside with the chicks by herself. It just makes me nervous. OR it just gives me another reason to get Guineas and an attack Llama.

Quote: Hi Kim!

The Del eggs are a nice brown but not quite up to Marans dark. They are nicely colored though!

The Dels are not developing as well as the SG Dorkings. I remove a bunch last night from the Brinsea. I will candle the rest tonight and let you know. It was early in the season, so we should set again as soon as these hatch. I have been reading lately about light and combs on roosters needing to go a bit longer after winter to get fertility up to where it should be.

Any news on the lonely duck? I feel so bad for him. Ours have hysterics when we pick up one and not the other, I can't imagine if one died.

We have a lot of ducks so we are covered there. But we only have 2 geese and I often worry what if...if something happens to one. The other would die of heartbreak. :( We are working on getting another somehow...

Maybe hang the "No Trespassing" sign from the chain. I wouldn't want to move a log every time I left. We are spoiled now with the automatic gate but I remember getting out and opening gates in the rain and then doing it again to close it to keep the deer and neighbors dogs out while we where gone.

I was thinking about getting a few more ducks, but I really don't love the idea of getting more babies right now. Ours are already so big (two weeks) and stinky.

I agree about the log, it wasn't a very good idea! Sometimes my mind doesn't go to very simple options, probably why I was never stellar at math

(except chicken math! Doing great with that). And I also agree that an automatic gate would be much better than something you have to get in and out for, although at least it doesn't rain nearly as much here as in Oregon. Our landlord said he would reimburse us for anything we do to improve the property, but I feel like I need to get approval from him first. I texted him today (his preferred method of communication) so I should get an answer by this time next year. Maybe.

Woke up this morning to a bator full of chicks:) Yay!!! My first fluffy butts of the year.

Just a quick pic a took this morning and most had just hatched so they aren't fluffed up yet. There are way more hatched now and so far I've gotten 2 splash chicks. Just a few more eggs to go:)

Here are some pics of our pergola by the pool that DH has been working on. It's almost done...well at least until we start with the "rock work" and barbecue area. But that's going to be awhile maybe a year or two. For now we get to enjoy having shady spot hang out under near our pool:)

Is that a costco grape box you are hatching in? What a great idea!!!

You know, your pergola would make a great coop - just staying... LOL Feathers in the pool..... not such a great idea tho
