Morning!! I need some expert advice... My EE, Flossie, hasn't laid in about 3 days. Just finished the 2nd worming. Last night I noticed that one of the ladies sounded like she coughed.... I narrowed it down to Flossie. This morning when I let them out she did it again. I have been watching her & her poo looks fine, but she is drinking a lot & keeping her beak open a bit. She also appears to have too many secretions in her respiratory tract. Her face is wet & she's not sneezing or shaking off the excess water after drinking. I haven't been able to look down her throat yet, but what could be wrong? How do I fix it ? I just got done worming & I want everybody healthy!!!

HELP?!!! Please.
Does Wazine kill Gape Worms? Something to look at.

Chickens do not get colds, so any thing respiratory is not good.

I would have to look it up but there are a couple of anti biotics to give them for ...ok looked it up: duramycin-10 and Sulmet.

Separate the one with the symptoms. Watery eyes and nasal discharge are bad symptoms so watch for those too. Hopefully she has Gape worms getting out.

Watch the others and get any one that is coughing out ASAP.

Hold off on the retreatment for worms if you give them anti biotics. Too many meds is bad for them.

Thank you for posting this! I was going to direct Deb to the first part of the Hatch thread.

You and I seem to be having similar problems.

I also just wormed, but not convinced that all is well yet. Several chickens still have very watery stools, they are still drinking as much water as in summer, and just noticed my EE has similar symptoms to your Flossie. I'm going to follow Ron's advice and isolate her and am looking into the antibiotics. Hate to give something if it's not needed, but am worried about waiting too long. I'd really appreciate hearing about anything you try and if you get results. I'll let you know from my end, too. Good luck!

The 2nd worming was finished yesterday, before I noticed her being funny. Ok. I will take her out :( Should I just look into her mouth to see any signs of gape? If no signs of gape, how long do I wait before starting a treatment of Duramycin or Sulmet? What would the nasal discharge indicate? Her eyes seem fine, but I don't like the open beak thing. I need help holding her so I can check her throat, but I will take her out now... Poor Flossers :( She's named after my great aunt, Flossie!! LOL
