What has worked best for me is to unplug the humidity pump while candling. I do not take the eggs out. I use a Brinsea high intensity candler (they do not make this type anymore) and place the rubber tip on the top of the egg and it lights up the egg enough to see the veins around the air cell as early as 4 days along, then later the chicks floating in there, which is SO cool to see! Be sure to wash your hands before handling the eggs otherwise any bacteria on your hands can enter the eggs and cause them to quit.
Is this a blood ring? Uploading from my phone. Will edit from laptop with candling results.
OK, easier to type on the laptop.....wow, no clears out of the 25 eggs! But I think 3 have a blood ring if that's what this picture is....I know it's hard to tell but any opinions on that? I'm SO excited!![]()
So the Brinsea lost 2 degrees and 2% humidity while I candled. I took an egg out at a time, replacing the lid each time. The humidity pump was going crazy and now it's up to 67% humidity and the temp is back to 99.6, 25 minutes after candling. What's up with that? do I need to open the lid and release some humidity? It's never been over 40%.
Peacheschic,
There will be a small poultry show in Red Bluff on the 30th if you're interested. If you go and see someone with white hair and wearing a chocolate brown sweatshirt with lime green paw prints going up the sleeve, that's me!

BYC works best with Internet Explorer. Chrome is ok and Fire Fox works well but spell check and a couple of other things are Wonky.
I use Fire Fox and spell check works and I can do the multi quotes from page to page. I'm able to do the same through Safari on my iPhone.
Spell as you go does not work on any of my computers with firefox. If I right click on the mis spelled word, it wants to copy and paste. Regular spell check works. Spell as you go works with IE.

Quote:Wow Deb! Do you have a cockerel for sale? I'd add "from a dark egg" but I don't see any eggs that I wouldn't take a chicken from! How did I miss that you have such dark eggs? I've been looking for a BCM for my Blue Copper Marans. Are all your chicks from your current hatch sold? Do you ship eggs? That roo looks bad @$$! I hear the song..."I'm...too sexy for my...."![]()
Thanks Pam! Actually I do have a spare. I've got three boys and I don't really need more than one right now. I thought I knew who was for sale (actually the one above is the one I was selling), but let me take another look at them this week. I had a couple of inquiries left when I sold out the last batch, so I'd need to contact those people first, but otherwise none of the current (I forget, I have 12-18 in right now). And I do ship eggs also.

It is their "First Annual". I think the club had shows years ago in a different location and they are now reestablished and starting in Red Bluff. The judge listed is John Monaco for Open. Entries must be postmarked by the 15th. (Dang, I need to decide who's going and get mine in).
