I thought I had this figured out but now I'm doubting myself.

When would I load eggs for hatching on the afternoon of April 5th? I'm hoping to have chicks emerging when my MIL & SIL's are here.

I was thinking it was today, then I looked at the calendar and confused myself, common practice here.

Set them tomorrow and day 21 will be on the 5th of April :)

Well, setting tomorrow would be 21 days to the 5th (for normal chicken eggs). Of course you can't count on the 21 days exactly, they sometimes have a mind of their own. My last hatch had one chick completely out on day 19, and most of the recent hatched on day 20, a few on day 21. I need to recalibrate, it may be running a tiny bit hot. Although, some breeds day 20 is the norm. If I were you, I'd set this evening for your best shot at something hatching that day and you should at least have some new chicks running around.

Always cute!

Yeah? Who? I live in a very "sportsie" household. A few years ago my DH was named top HS/College referee in the State, all sports. Our best friend neighbor (across the street), their 14 year old son plays club BB, he's 6'4" and quite talented.
Brad Waldo Saint Mary's College soph big man. My daughters are Srs at SMC and one of them has been traveling to tournament play with the SMC sports band since she was a frosh. Waldo has grown so much as a player and had the game of his life last Saturday double doubles AND he had his front teeth knocked out on a rebound. Anyway he has made a name for Shingle Springs in the West Coast Conference

Wow, what an honor for your H! My husband also was a ref over here though but switched to coaching when our son was 9...he's 17 now and will graduate from high school 11 days after his 18th b-day

Your are correct to be confused!

I use a hatch chart to calculate the hatch date. If you start before noon, that day counts! Incubation begins as soon as the eggs heat up.

I bet that is why Jason is off on his hatch. If you start before noon on the 16th, day 21 is April 5th.

You could set them at 5:00pm on the 15th too. I would set them then because like Deb said, they do not follow an exact schedule and could hatch from day 19 to day 23 or so.

Speaking of early hatches, I now have 3 ducks hatched two days early!

I had a very busy morning. Since they are hatching so early and some have not pipped yet, I will have to brood some of them before the Egg Farmer comes to pick them up. Ducks are quieter than chickens when they hatch. They did not keep me awake last night.

Also, today is Math Pi Day(Or Nerd Pie Day) 3.14, so I got up at 5:00am and made fresh Blue Berry Pie! My Middle daughter is making German Chocolate Pie. I have a recipe for the Fresh blue Berry pie so I will post it. I will get the other recipe and a picture of it tonight.

Ok folks, that is 5, count them 5, cups of Blue Berries!

Thanks ladies,

I'll load them up tonight. I usually get the early pip and 24 hours later it pops out. Just hoping to get one emerging while she is here. She keeps asking me to bring the incubator to her and has no clue. Most of what you tell her is gone in 30 minutes anyway. Hoping the visual will stay with her longer.

That is soooo pretty! Could you post the German chocolate pie recipe? That is the one I always chose for my birthday for my mom to make me. Yes at 54 I still want mom to make it for me but she lost the recipe a couple years ago. Hmm, maybe she lost it on purpose!

Thanks Ron,

Setting later will help out since I should be back from Red Bluff to unload the turner and put in my water cups. Eric's thumb isn't the greatest since the table saw encounter a few years ago, he's nervous handeling eggs. I understand, I would hate to drop one at that point.
