That is soooo pretty! Could you post the German chocolate pie recipe? That is the one I always chose for my birthday for my mom to make me. Yes at 54 I still want mom to make it for me but she lost the recipe a couple years ago. Hmm, maybe she lost it on purpose!
I will have my Daughter send me the recipe. It is probably the same recipe -- it is a Betty Crocker recipe!

Chicksinthesticks,

My downfall is my Mom's potato salad.

My cooking skills are; Burn, Chat, and Incenorate. So envious of all you talented people.

I just used the BrinseaFan code as well, a couple of days ago (I worked up my nerve and ordered a cabinet

) Pam, I'l get back with you on your PM today. I need to go take a closer look at that bird. The last three days were my "on work" schedule. Today I am gloriously home all day!

Yeah? Who? I live in a very "sportsie" household. A few years ago my DH was named top HS/College referee in the State, all sports. Our best friend neighbor (across the street), their 14 year old son plays club BB, he's 6'4" and quite talented.

First, let me say I am so sorry for your loss.

Not to be the dissenting opinion, but maybe it will just be another way for you to view the situation. I would go, the whole purpose to the service it to support the living and really has much less to do with the departed. Your friend/co-worker will just appreciate that you are there. If you become emotional, I'm sure you won't be the only one. I'm also sure that with your own recent loss, it would serve as an additional release for you.

It's like sometimes when I am sad and a bundle of emotion for no apparent reason, I will watch a sad movie so I can have a good cry. I always feel better afterwards.

Good luck with your decision on what to do.

Deb

Thank you Deb, that sure is another way to look at it. I'm not sure if it would help me or depress me more though. It's true, I also feel better after I cry.

Amy - hope your DH is okay. It's got to be pretty scary for both of you.

Ron - that's a strange way to ship eggs. I'll be listening for how well they do.

Liz - tough spot to be in. If you don't feel you can handle it, then don't go. If they are having a get together after, you can go and show your support to her there and bring food.

I may do that! I am much more comfortable cooking then with the other stuff.

Speaking of early hatches, I now have 3 ducks hatched two days early!
th.gif

I had a very busy morning. Since they are hatching so early and some have not pipped yet, I will have to brood some of them before the Egg Farmer comes to pick them up. Ducks are quieter than chickens when they hatch. They did not keep me awake last night.

Also, today is Math Pi Day(Or Nerd Pie Day) 3.14, so I got up at 5:00am and made fresh Blue Berry Pie! My Middle daughter is making German Chocolate Pie. I have a recipe for the Fresh blue Berry pie so I will post it. I will get the other recipe and a picture of it tonight.

Ok folks, that is 5, count them 5, cups of Blue Berries!
I never thought of making pie on Pi day!

Quote: Liz - take care of yourself first and help your friend in a way that will work for you. I have to remind myself that if I don't take care of myself first then I can't take care of others. Sending you lots of hugs.

You too? The other thing I do well is undercook, then futz with it to fix it and it becomes less alluring to others.

I, personally, eat unattractive but easy to microwave things. Hot dogs, 1 minute each. Baked potato, 8 minutes apiece. Ramen noodles, 5 minutes. Even artichokes: four big 'chokes, covered, cook with a half cup of water for 16 minutes, then 5 minutes rest. Bacon: a minute per strip. Hot food fast but not pretty.

... the electronic pressure cooker is another boon! Plunk things into it, turn it on and leave it alone. Everything is ready within minutes; even the longest cooking time is usually less than an hour. Something very flavorful and enough to eat for a couple days or more.

Baking? Don't make me laugh. Food presentation? Riiiight. Have fork, will eat.

I have a sign hanging on the cabinet knobs over the stove: "I only have a kitchen because it came with the house."

I put up between 3,000 to 5,000 jars of jams, jellies, pickles every year. Since I can't walk away from them they are OK.

If someone else here would do "Mommy" jobs I would probably be better at cooking, no guarantees! I get distracted because someone can't find something, a dog needs out or in, DH desides he has to order seeds and can't remember his password at Territorial, ... I'm known for burning Jello!

Besides, Eric likes to try different spices in things, I'm a gravy or sauces kind of person. Don't like how I cook - fine - you know where the kitchen is, you built it.

The joke around here is - Cooking for Mariah (DD), is like cooking for an octipus. She's like "Mikey", doesn't like anything, and what she liked last month is no good this month.

Okay, I'm quite the opposite, in my recent kitchen remodel, I had three ovens installed, HEAVEN! I love to cook

But I LOVE your sign, LOL

Wow, you got me beat on the numbers, but I do a lot of canning. Probably 500-1,000 jars per year.

I'm canning for grower's markets, we do eat some of it.

It's like the cooking here, Eric's favorite is the peppered dills, mine is the bread and butter pickles.
