California - Northern

Im having some temperature problems. Either with my Genesis. Or my Thermometer.

My incubator is reading 99.5-99.9 and my thermometer is reading 95.9!! Big difference. What should I do. Today is day 20. Its been doing this since last night.

Ive calibrated the thermometer and it is reading 32 degrees. maybe a 10th off 21.9...32....32.1

should i bump my bator up a few degrees to be safe?
I'd drop another themo in there to see which one is right before bumping up. I am always afraid of messing with temp with eggs in the bator

Just got off work, and I'm already thinking about chickens.

Ha, I just need to get them so I can play with them instead of think about them.
Come on.. tell us the truth... you were thinking about chickens at work too...

Today or tomorrow I get Dick Horstman eggs. His were the worst ever. A poster on the great egg shipping experiment thread had a box delivered from Dick that was so bad the post office refused to deliver it. it was leaking egg goo!

We are posting pictures of shipped eggs we get to compare methods. I did post the pictures up there.

The eggs were wrapped in either foam or bubble wrap. There was big bubble bubble wrap on the bottom and top of the box and the eggs were packed in saw dust!

It was a very heavy box and the shipping was $21.00 for it.

The eggs are Blue black and Splash Black Australorp. There are 14 eggs.
Here is a picture of how not to pack eggs. This shipper simply put eggs in carton and put carton in box with newspaper.

These are Brabanter eggs I bought these off Ebay last year. I should have read the feedback before I ordered cuz seller failed miserable. My postman warned me the package stunk when he came to my door so I opened box outsite and this is what I found. These eggs were clearly in this box for a lot longer than the time it took to ship them. The story gets worst, but I will spare you all the details. Bottom line, make sure to read peoples feedback on Ebay before ordering. I should never have ordered from this seller who was clearly a scammer.

I'm canning for grower's markets, we do eat some of it.

It's like the cooking here, Eric's favorite is the peppered dills, mine is the bread and butter pickles.

My canning is mostly for Fair competitions and home consumption...............and what I give away. But I'm with you, I love B&B pickles. When my DH and I were first dating, he bought me a lug of pickling cucumbers for my bday............................The worst part.......................that's what I asked for, LOL

Oh Deanne, those just nasty looking.

That is soooo pretty! Could you post the German chocolate pie recipe? That is the one I always chose for my birthday for my mom to make me. Yes at 54 I still want mom to make it for me but she lost the recipe a couple years ago. Hmm, maybe she lost it on purpose!
If you love German Chocolate Cake, you'd love this - it's heavenly! My families favorite is German Chocolate, but I think they loved this more!

I put up between 3,000 to 5,000 jars of jams, jellies, pickles every year. Since I can't walk away from them they are OK.
Holy cow!

I can, but not that much. I do much more jams than anything else as I have LOTS of fruit on my trees. I haven't crossed over to pressure canning yet. I make more than we can use, but I give some away as gifts too.

I called to check on the Duck hatch and two more have hatched!

My DD said that the one that had hatched earlier jumped up to be with the just hatched one. She said they cuddled and went to sleep!

How disappointing! I wonder if they really WERE Brabanter eggs or if the seller stuck some from Safeway in a box and mailed those. Seems like eggs from a rare breed like that would be better protected by those who breed them....but maybe I am naive'

Ron are you getting the Horstman eggs?? I was in contact with him but am glad now that I went with others. Chookschick has great feedback on ebay but I don't think my other seller...Bethbug has an ebay record...if she does I didn't find it. If anyone has anything negative to say about either please don't tell me. I can't spend the next three weeks fretting about what might or might not be. I would like to remain in denial as well as naive thanks

Quote: The Horstman eggs are replacement of eggs from last year that were broken receipt. I had a probably false hope that they would be packed better this year.

Chookschicks(Renee) should be great at shipping eggs! What are you getting from her?
