California - Northern

OK Ron, you mentioned Marradunna Basques yesterday, I read the last 10 pages on the thread looking for someone close. I see that Skyline has them, are they in PA? I would rather find someone closer if I had to order eggs.
I have them. I am in California. Mine line is from Skyline.

I am happy to hear that you still have them!

I'm sitting here this morning reading through the breed thread.

They are a lighter color than I usually like but pretty close to dried oak leaves and then dust baths in red clay soil should provide enough camo. for them. Don't know why I always think predators, I haven't lost one yet, just hate to invite the wildlife to dinner.

You would have to worry more about predators there. I have to worry about Urban predators and I am more likely to have a person come steal my birds.

The Roos are large and very attentive. I think you would like them. Maybe try some this year and see?

I'm hoping for a broody to hatch and raise them. I'm not getting the best results from my incubation, so if one of the ladies goes I'll see about ordering. I sent them an email about availabity times so hopefully it will all fall together.

... I went on a shooting spree with my Appleyards.

I love those two photos!

Incredible shots!

Such pretty colored chicks. Congrats!

I was able to get a video of the eighth duck to hatch.

Wow, how cool. The duckling looked like he wanted to help his sibling hatch there for a moment.

The entry form is on it's way in for Red Bluff.

I decided not to enter this time. Hopefully, I will get to go to see the show. I'd love to meet up with any of you that will be there.

I had one of my Marraduna Basque go broody last fall. She was very serious too. I put some EEs under her but they did not take. I would have tried harder but they were Papa Brooders chicks and it was going to freeze at night all week.

Hi guys!! Who knows quail? Coturnix quail. Apparently I have cinnamon & jumbo, but I don't know who's who as far as boys- except for the jumbos- I know them. I just got them 3 days ago, but no eggs yet. I equate it with settling after being rehomed... The breeder told me they just started laying. I thought I had it down yesterday! I knew which ones were boys, but today the ones that I thought were girls are mounting other "girls"...uugghh... another thing- it IS breading season, right? The one jumbo boy is pretty aggressive, but I read not to take it out if it's the season....

Please message me if you can help!! :) Thanks.

The Ducks started hatching on Wednesday evening--the first one was on the egg turner. 8 have hatched so far so I decided to check one egg that was pipped but now big hole. It started peeping! I bade a bit bigger hole in the pip and put it back. Two others are now working on getting out. Today is the official hatch day for them so maybe I will get more. There are 4 more with pips in the incubator....
