I used the generic Monistat 3. I cut each of the 3 suppositories into 3 pieces and fed my hen 1 piece in the morning and 1 piece at night. So it was 9 doses and 4 1/2 days. I also used the cream around her vent. I need to check the rest of my flock tomorrow because I am suspecting that I have a few others with it. I used to give them plain yogurt every morning and never had the problem. I recently switched to giving them fermented feed in the morning and no yogurt. Now I'm having a problem with Vent Gleet. I started back with the yogurt in the morning and fermented feed around midday. I hope that helps take care of the problem!I want to thank PetRock for sharing her Vent Gleet experience. I have two with it and one is pretty bad.
It was a weird experience treating with a suppository..... The things we do for our chickens.![]()
Do I really have to do this for 7 days?

Thank You!
Both of the still lay eggs. Amazingly productive things. The eggs have blood on them though.
RIP Jewel!![]()
It's a sad night in our chicken yard. Remember my penguin walking blue Langshan chicken Jewel? She's the one in my avatar. I had my DH put her down this evening. She took a turn for the worse this week and spent most of her time hiding from our head chicken and her enforcers. They were jumping on her every time they could and the back of her head had scabs from them pecking out her feathers. They must have known that things were not right with her. She also stopped laying eggs last week and was breathing with her mouth open. I think that she could have had liver problems or major problems with her egg equipment. The problems started within a week or 2 of her starting to lay. She was one of my favorites and it was a hard decision to make but it was for the best for her. RIP Jewel!![]()

She looks like a production red. Does she lay a lot of large to jumbo brown eggs?
Thank you everyone! I keep telling myself that it is silly to be upset but feelings just happen. She was part of the first group of chicks that I hatched and we chose her to stay in our layer flock with a hatchmate who has crippled feet. I have a soft spot for underdogs and Jewel was that. Plus, I nursed her inside for a couple of weeks hoping that I could make a difference and that makes for a strong bond. My DH thinks that my nursing is the kiss of death but I was able to nurse my OE back to health! I just wish that it had worked for Jewel.
