Quote: I like this idea too. I haven't tried this one.

Another tip, If you leave them locked up in their coop for two days, they will learn that the new coop is home and will go back at night. I have had problems with new pullets not figuring this out. If you don't lock them in you will probably have to pick them up each night and put them into the coop. That takes longer--a week or so and is a pain.

Hi All,

I wanted to pass this on. It's from an email to me:

I have an eight month old rooster that I need to rehome. I can't have
roos here in Camarillo, but have been sort of hiding him out to get some
fertile eggs, which he has helped to deliver in spades. He's tolerated a
lot and is a nice, good tempered boy. Ron Presley (Cottage Hill) line,
gorgeous and feather-footed. I got him as a chick originally from Debi
at Heaven Sent Ranch. Her birds are so beautiful.

What I'm looking for is a good home where he won't end up in a freezer.
"Rob" has done me a great service and I feel I owe him. :) I am in
Ventura County and am willing to do some driving to place him. I have a
trip to Fresno (traveling the 99) planned on Saturday, June 23rd if
anyone up that way might be interested. I'll also be happy to include
three of his chicks, out of my Ron Presley hen, to go with him as a
thank you for allowing him a place where he can live a good chicken
life. Sophie's eggs have been gorgeously dark, ranging from solid to
spotted. The chicks were hatched June 4th.

Ahhhh man- I wish my darn coop were READY! He is so handsome! But he'd be so darn lonely since I don't have any other full sized chickens. Not only that- we are so out of her way. Why do I have to live so far North!

Quote: I have two Marans Cockerels that have similar pedigrees, so they should look like him. They are getting nice copper on them. They are 10 weeks old. They are from Wade Jean Hens and a Ron Presley Rooster.

My Mom lives in Shingletown, so I cut off at Anderson to drive up to Hwy 44. If interested, I could meet you at the Anderson Walmart next Saturday or Sunday.

Send a pm if interested.

If anyone else is interested, I have a SG Dorking cockerel, 3 Partridge Rock Cockerels, a Dorking Americauna cross and 4 EO Basque Cockerels.

Hiya ronott1! No we don't live in Australia yet! We live up near Seattle but we plan to retire in Australia because we have so many friends and family back there! We go back almost every year though because my wife has 3 adult kids (2 daughters and 1 son) We have 1 Black Australope and she's an egg laying machine so far!

I'm not sure what an "SQ" Black Australope is but if it's the same bird we have Australopes in every Farm Supply store up here in our area! They're great hens! ~David

Welcome! :D I'm in Redding. I think the last big city before you hit Oregon. :D I wish the Summers here weren't so hot though- love everything else about this area.
Hello zooweemama! My wife and I live up in the Seattle area but my wife is Australian originally from Sydney and I'm originally from Tracy, Calif. I have an older brother
old.gif
that retired from Mountain View as a football coach and he lives right on the lake in West Almanor! We visit him every year and if we didn't retire in Australia we'd love to retire near my brother..possibly Chester which is right across the lake from him! Where ever we go we'll want to have chooks (Australian for chickens...lol)
D.gif
. I envy you for having "Hot" weather! The World news said that every state in the union had higher than average warm weather except for one state..WASHINGTON of course!..

Hi DaveandWendy,

Seattle is really North West! My middle daughter lives up there. My son in law is in the Army, currently in Afghanistan.

SQ BAs are the ones they show at the Fairs. Australia and the US have a Standard of Perfection the is similar, but the chickens are much closer to the standard than they are here. There is a discussion about that on the Australorp thread right now.

Australorps are one of the few breeds that have retained their great behavior and personality traits as Hatchery chickens, so they are a great choice for the home chicken keeper. They make great pets.

I have to figure out where I want to live when I retire. I have always wanted to live somewhere cooler, but I don't like snow that much...

Bye,

Ron
