I was at the show last weekend and walked past a cage with a hen eating her egg. My only thought was "Egg eater!". It didn't even matter what she looked like, made her practically worthless in my eyes.

Dang..............Brabanters................now those are tempting.

Just say the word Deb...they could be boxed and shipped before you know it.. :)

I am tempted too but am not caving, yet :-) Give me a year and a broody hen though and I can't be held accountable

Ron Blue Australorps! I forgot they come in other colors. I like my two girls just fine for their laying consistency and their pretty factor but my Red Stars and Delawares are so much more personable that I don't think I will get into the breed. However...there is nothing like holding a warm black chicken on a breezy spring morning to lift your spirits so probably I will always have one.

Deerling I felt the same way about labeling boys until I had one who wanted to throw, climb, escape from and jump off of everything in his environment. I liked the way you said it doesn't give them a pass for bad behavior. I loved those early years of raising my boy and his twin sisters and it does my heart good to see your kids playing in and eating the dirt and loving on the chickens. Oh and I see you over on the April hatch thread too.

Everyone else Hi! Welcome to new people. I will be pestering with hatching questions because I just set eggs at 12:30 and I have never done it before.

Good luck with your Hatch. Watch out.....It is addicting~you will have brabanter eggs in there before you know it! LOL

Ron! That is really so nice of you!!! Thanks for making me the hatch chart.

Miss Molly Thanks! I am a bit freaked out with 25 chicks arriving for brooding on the 26th (only keeping 8-10 of them but still) and the hatch on the 27th which was originally gong to be 16 but has turned into 35....yipes! I know they won't all hatch and I plan to CL extra girls. The boys...except 1 will have a bachelor pen set up and eventually they will be dinner but at the moment you can't tempt me...very much.. with those mohawked beauties.

Gonna go check the temp but will not do anything about it yet...24 hours according to the LG still air cheat sheet before I can even stick in a plug.

They are supposed to have soulful eyes. I have one hatchery hen from Cackle(one of the best places to get Hatchery BAs--they have winners at 4-H sows with them)

so beautiful! i've just got my Daisy:

but will be interested at some point to try hatching a Daisy/Max cross, to see what happens when you mix black australorp with swedish flower hen!

Your Welcome!

Yes, wait 24 hours before adjusting and if you do adjust just adjust a little bit.
