SOOOOOO awesome!!!
I just tasted the meat & I can't believe I thought I knew what chicken was lol... This is amazing!
The process was way easier than I thought it would be & I had both birds done & in the cooler in less that 30 min... not bad for a first kill?
I found yokes in both: I knew I pulled them for a reason... I thought they were slowing down because of age but neither were laying... glad I did it when I did.
I cooked the two I slaughtered tonight & am making chicken salad in the morning to share @ a family BBQ (after I go to goat class in the morning & finish grocery shopping... someday I will stop buying food from stores all together). I can't wait for our Farmer's Market to get going again... two more weeks I think.

I just have to say, yesterday was crazy: we had a roaring forest fire across the bottom road from us & I had to pack up my kids & get off the hill (everything is put out now & we are home)
but all I could think about was dropping the kids off in town & getting back to the house for the chickens... the ones still alive & the two in the cooler! I almost lost everything... super crazy day but a beautiful sunset full of gratitude at the end of it all... Enjoy the picks!



OH! And after putting the new pullets in the other night, I went out & got my first blue egg the next morning!
(The color isn't great in the pic; that egg was way bluer than it looks there...) Everyone is doing great!

Oh man that's awful about the fires. It's been so windy and dry!!

I am so thrilled your experience went so well. I am so excited to to maybe do this myself in a few months or next spring. The idea of plucking and processing seems daunting. If anywhere near me wants to let me watch them do this- lol I am so there. I'd hate to botch it when I get there. I bet it tasted delicious! I can tell a difference with fresh eggs and supermarket eggs- so I can only imagine chicken itself would be better!

I can edit a picture beautifully in Photoshop but drawing (let alone on a computer) is definitely not my forte. This is GREAT!

Hey Disco!

I just noticed we have 16 1/2 dozen eggs in the fridge..... better start selling!!

And.. I started drawing this! (This morning)
