@PetRock: I know the TSC in our area had hardware cloth cheaper than Lowe's or Home Depot. We've been pricing it also cause we intend to use it with out pens. I hope this was helpful and not too late.

@everyone else: Gorgeous chickens, I've enjoyed looking at them all so much.

I must say I find the silkies afros absolutely adorable! They look like a bunch of old school hippies lol.
Thank you! We didn't end up getting far enough today to need it. I'm going to see where the closest TSC is. I also want to check out the hog panel prices there.

I watch a Episode of hoarders last night.... As I'm watching It, I was thinking ....these people are crazy, get rite of the ****!
Then I got to really thinking...OH CRAP.... Im a Chicken hoarder....everytime I think Im going to down size. I tell myself, not that one, not that one either, or that one. I can't let go of any of them. I'm starting to get that way with the chicks too....I really think I have a problem....

Aren't they gorgeous? Even more so in person. Hard not to smother them with kisses.

Our big girls are moving out to the coop tonight. Yay! I'm excited. I keep thinking I see more Buff Orpingtons hunched up like Alice, but so far I think I'm wrong. Hopefully. I'm going to call on Monday if I haven't heard from UC Davis. Hoping everything is okay.
ADORABLE! And I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the news from UC Davis.

Today,we are working on our breeding pens at the farm. Does anyone know where to get hardware cloth that is less expensive than Lowe's or Home Depot?
Ace Hardware is way cheaper! Our Ace has 20% off the first Saturday of the month. Also every Wednesday is senior day, which is 20% off. we took my mohter-in-law with us, and purchased a roll of it.

Thank you! We have an Ace very close to where we live. I didn't even think about checking there!

Quote: I have been in contact with a couple of Bresse owners. One said they were feed hogs--even did the eating while laying down trick.

Linda is giving them, free choice, some 20% protein I think Game feed or poultry conditioner. It is a King Feed product and has Fish meal in it. It also has Soy so I won't be using it. I am giving mine Ultra Kibble free choice each day. They see to be doing fine but they are only 5 weeks old.

We feed 18 or 20% food and about 1/2 of that is fermented. The bresse eat like marans. Little piggies. But if I let them go into the easement they are great for finding bugs and that helps. They don't love vegetation like the silkies and turkeys however.

That's great news about ace Saturdays. We will go check it out.

Question;
If I put a hen in with a roo and the hen has already been fertilized recently by a different roo, will the new Roos sperm override the other?

Confusing. I have my easter eggers together now But would like some olive eggers. So I want to put them in with my Marans roo. Should I just wait the 3 weeks to be sure?

My hatch is done. Ended up with 13 of the 19 that went into lockdown. 2 pipped but quit, the other 4 looked like they drowned in the shell. I got 5 splash this time!!! To soon to guess gender but everyone looks good and strong.

Incubators washed out, waiting for some sunshine to finish it off. May be re-loading next week.
My hatch is done too!

The 4 that were left did not pip and only one had a fully developed chick inside. The Genesis goes into the shower for a cleaning tonight and then Monday Black Penes go into it. They will be close enough in age that they can Brood with the BAs.

Moving chickens around soon....again......
