I watch a Episode of hoarders last night.... As I'm watching It, I was thinking ....these people are crazy, get rite of the ****!
Then I got to really thinking...OH CRAP.... Im a Chicken hoarder....everytime I think Im going to down size. I tell myself, not that one, not that one either, or that one. I can't let go of any of them. I'm starting to get that way with the chicks too....I really think I have a problem....

I will stick up for you here. The hoarders never get rid of anything and the animals are always in terrible conditions. You do sell eggs, chicks, adults. Now don't you feel better?

When I was forced to down-size my rooster population it was very tough for me. Very tough. Especially because so many were bantams if folks around here want roosters, they usually want them for eating. I created a flyer with colored photos of the boys, with their names and ages, adding I would give away two hens with each rooster.

I was able to find them homes - and a neighbor found somebody he knew to take two of them (the friend had hens, so those two went without hens from my flock). But when the prospective owners came to select roosters, not only did my heart break at saying good-bye to the boys, I had to select hens to go with them.

No, not that one. Not that one... Well, okay..... This one, and how about this one... It was so hard. If I hatched them myself, they were mine. If my hens hatched them, they were mine, too. MINE MINE MINE! I was only able to let "breed duplicates" go, no singletons. Hen-wise, anyway. I kinda had no choice on the roosters EXCEPT for the three I was keeping. (Supposed to be only two, but nobody knew the Silkie was a roo... And I sure wasn't gonna tell 'em.)

I now prepare myself to deal with giving up new cockerels when they crow. The house silkie, Sparkle hatched four mutt eggs from my flock and one is obviously a cockerel. But his daddy is Carl and his egg-mommy is .... Okay, not sure, but probably Angel. He hatched from a green egg, Carl is an EE and Angel is a bantam white EE. He could throw the green egg gene; maybe that could be a selling (actually a "give-away") point. Sparkle hatched them in my office/incubation Room/nursery in the brooder bin.

Agreed. I watched an episode with a Hoarder that had chickens. She had and incubator but did not use it. She had rotten eggs all over her trailer and did not take care of her chickens. She also did not sell any eggs or chickens.

I am sending four to a farm tomorrow to start breeding with Megans Rooster. See I can give them away too. I just have too many of them.....

Chocolate (also Clementine's):

Aren't they gorgeous? Even more so in person. Hard not to smother them with kisses.

Our big girls are moving out to the coop tonight. Yay! I'm excited. I keep thinking I see more Buff Orpingtons hunched up like Alice, but so far I think I'm wrong. Hopefully. I'm going to call on Monday if I haven't heard from UC Davis. Hoping everything is okay.

It's quite pleasant in the spring/fall...................not so much in the winter when we're dealing with mud

But we still enjoy chicken TV as long as it's not raining.

This was the "Honey, I'd like a few chickens from the feedstore".

This is some of the expansion.

Just this morning "Honey" was doodling where he wants to put the next house.
Wow really nice! I like the decoration on the wall too.

How long before we reach 20,000 posts?

Maybe someone should set up a contest for Day and time. Molly could provide some Jaehorn hatching eggs as prize?...Ok, that prize would be for me....

I think my Bresse hen ate the egg yesterday... I'm over them! I let them both out of the breeding coop...
I have had them in a breeding coop for months. What a waste of time. I'm going to use that coop for something else... :/
