California - Northern

Anybody know of a good home looking for a little baby rooster?? Turns out "Lady Di" is actually Little Dave. He's the most hilarious little spit and I'd love to keep him, but I live in the city and I doubt I can come up with an effective means of stiffling the eventual crowing. He's around 4 weeks or so now. Thus, I need to find the little dude a new place. Ideas? I travel a lot for work, as far north as Auburn or so and I'd be happy to deliver him anywhere within 6 hours or so of Fresno. Just want the little man to have a chance at a good life.

The fuzzy butted end.

He's a total lap chicken although he's not a fan of being carried around (squirmer).

Any help in finding the little dude a place would be welcome. I'd rather save CL as a last resort.... Cheers!

:yuckyuck   That is a good question.  Inquiring minds want to know!  I've seen pullet chicks for sale on craigslist for $45 for a day old while the boys are only $10.  Greenfire sells them for $59 for day old pullets and $19 for day old cockerels.  I have fallen in love with the 3 pullets that I have and I know that I can get a cockerel for free or less than $10.  But I would love to hatch out a few more or add 2 or 3 more pullets to the flock.  Those of you who have these sought after breeds, how do you decide on pricing?

I sell breeding pair of day old Cream Legbars for $35.00
I also sell hatching eggs $5.00 each :)

I've got like 8 pages to catch up on but I want to get this posted asap.

I really want to feed the Freedom feed from King Feeds but there's no supplier in my area (Paradise). I talked to my hay supplier where I also buy my chicken feed and she said she needed to order 4 pallets of it, I think she said it comes out to 120 bags, so I asked her if I could get enough people to commit to that many would she be interested in bringing it in and she agreed.

I called King and got the # for the rep for Northern CA and she also gave me the # of a place in Gridley who is also willing to order it. He already orders their dog food so would bring in the Freedom line too but Vanella Farms in Durham is closer and I have to get hay for the horses there anyway so I'd like to see the feed there. Anyway, I have a Facebook page for my farm and made some phone calls to chicken keepers in my area and I've already have the commitment of about 40 bags but I'd like to get as many people as I can to ensure they'll stock it for us.

Durham would be convenient for anyone in the Chico/Paradise/Oroville/Durham and surrounding areas. If you're interested in feeding the GMO free, soy free feed but didn't have a source, lets pool together and get it in our area. PM me or respond here to what you'd commit to. A few more people who want a few bags should get a truck in next week.

I'm not selling this or making any money, I just really want to feed it to my chickens but don't have a supplier. If you've been interested in this feed and live in my neck of the woods, lets pull together and get it!

Lots of bawdy talk on the Cinco de Mayo thread Ron no one would blink at that ^^^^ ;)

I think it might be partly my fault though, since I kind of mentioned it in the digest today..... Now they are talking about Rams and etc. too.

It sure is a lot of fun over there.

My contractor is a General Contractor; he's the same one who built my deck, took out a window and installed a single French style door onto the deck, built my pergola, garden fence, transmorgrified the dilapidated carport into the chicken coop, ran water to it and upgraded the ectricity in it, installed the auto chicken door, my electronic pet door, painted the house, and screened the front porch for me. Buncha stuff.

He's not a landscape contractor but has a great eye and does exemplary work. He lives in Outingdale and does a lot of work for Ed Keller & Associates, the real estate agency which handled my purchase of my property. (He also appeared at the Board of Supervisors meeting and Admin Hearing on my behalf during the Great Chicken War of Somerset.)

Jason, PM me if you want his name and number.
cool. I was just wondering if I knew him

I did go to bed early last night--I get up at 5 each morning. This is the main thread for me. It is where the cool kids hang out:

I will finally get to post a couple of a splash Blue Egg Layer today. I need to get to the computer with Photoshop first though..

According to USPS the EO eggs left Portland yesterday, sure hope they get here today or tomorrow and don't have to sit until next week. I'll get the incubator ready today just in case and re-read the shipped egg thread.

Any bakers here? I am wanting to make this cake for Mark: http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2007/06/the_best_chocol/comment-page-2/#comments but don't have a sheet cake pan. I have two rounds I could use or a 9x13 glass one. Which of those would be better, and how long would I cook it? I guess I'll probably try with the rounds and just test it as it gets near the end of baking.
Hi it's very rich is why it's baked in a rimmed cookie sheet. I have made it before and it is super yummy!
