If you are in the area of sac, get chicks from Sherri in Lincoln. She as amazing babies. My husband goes up to Sacramento about once a quarter ad could take some for you to pick up if I have older chicks, but mine are to small for a day of car driving ATM. But if you ant her number pm me.
Thanks a ton, will do!
I second that one. Sherri in Lincoln has some beautiful birds. When I recover from buying Feathersprings pair and fixing my incubator I will be contacting her to see if she has any Partridge Pullets.
Thanks for the tip!

My brand new Embden babies from Metzer's arrived this morning!

I've heard some interesting statements while at the Grange.

Ran into a man who was looking for the cheapest way to feed his chickens, he was buying 50 pound bags of potatoes and after cooking and mashing them would add 20 pounds of wild bird seed. I can't get my head around that one, wrong in so many ways.

Besides, I think you said your birds were 12-14 weeks, almost not chicks anymore anyway! I walked in to a feedstore employee advising the feeding of ducklings. They knew they shouldn't be raised on chick starter, but had no idea why. The customer was not buying their answer. I stepped up and explained niacin, etc. The employee walked away and left me to "wait on" the customers, LOL

Oops, sorry. It's the University of CA Cooperative Extension Office. Look on your County website, it would be the Agricultural Office or listed under UCCE. They oversee the 4H program, so would have contact information for your local rabbit resource leader or project leaders. They will know which kid to send you to in order to buy meat rabbits (probably their own, LOL).

There are quite a few breeds considered meat rabbits (even giant angoras), but most commonly New Zealands or Californians.

Hi guys!! I need some positive Coturnix Quail hatching vibes!!!
This has been one hell of a week! My grandma, who passed the crazy chicken lady torch to me, passed away in front of me on the 8th, we have to put poor Ruby down today due to the Marek's thing, I'm losing weight like crazy & I cannot afford it. My mind is just going crazy right now & my quail are on day 18 & no wiggles yet. I have 33 eggs in the DIY bator. Chiqita--- Do you have any advice? Anybody? They are Jumbos. I'm breeding these quail to help my dad with his prostate cancer. I have read a lot about how valuable quail eggs are, health-wise.
Now I'm just rambling.... Anybody hatch quail?? The quail threads are not so helpful

I love the little cochins. My Columbians have started to lay well, after the first few clears, every egg has hatched. I have 6 or 7 new chicks from them and I just put in 12 more of their eggs last night. They are the cutest little chicks. I'll try to post a picture of them later.
Looking forward to the pictures.

Thanks! I tried to do that sort for the 4H stuff in my area but it wasn't what I needed. Californians are what I'm aiming for, The NZ eyes kinda creep me out. lol.
Awww congrats!!
Thanks!

I have Calico Bantams due to hatch 4/24 from Diana at Chooklat. I went to her place and all I can say is WOW! She has a beautiful set up for her chickens. I went there to get Olansk Draft and came home with Calicos also. She is so sweet and generous. Anyway. I need more breeds like I need a hole in my head but what can I say... I am a sucker for bantams and hers were out of this world. I hope to have a good hatch since the eggs were picked up. I will blast you all with pictures so brace yourselves.
